Surfshark vs ZoogVPN puts a large budget brand next to a small one. Surfshark, a Nord Security brand based in the Netherlands, allows unlimited devices, has two audits in our table and costs $67.23 for its first 27 months on Starter, then about $79 a year, according to Security.org and VPNOverview. ZoogVPN, run by Zoog Services in Patras, Greece, has no public no-logs audit, offers a free plan of 10 GB a month and charges about $2.49 a month on two years.

Surfshark vs ZoogVPN on Evidence

A warrant canary is a statement a company updates regularly to show it has received no secret legal orders; if it stops being updated, users should take note. It is not a substitute for an audit.

Surfshark has two audits in our table. ZoogVPN has no public no-logs or infrastructure audit, findcheapvpns found in September 2026, though its Android app passed Google Play’s independent security review and its warrant canary was current to August.

Surfshark vs ZoogVPN: Free Use and Devices

ZoogVPN’s free plan gives 10 GB a month on one device, with ads on Android and AES-128 encryption rather than its paid AES-256, reviews note. Surfshark has no free plan.

For a free start, ZoogVPN is the only option of the pair.

Surfshark sets no device limit. ZoogVPN allows 10 on paid plans in several reviews, while others list unlimited; its free plan allows one.

For a big household, Surfshark’s lack of a limit is certain.

Price

Two-year plans are the cheapest way to buy either service, but both renew at higher rates later. Set a reminder before the renewal date if you plan to switch or cancel.

ZoogVPN costs about $59.99 for its two-year plan, though sources differ on whether that covers 24 or 27 months. Surfshark Starter costs $67.23 for 27 months, then about $79 a year.

The two are close up front; check both renewal prices at checkout before paying.

Censorship Tools and Network

ZoogVPN’s Shadow and ZoogTLS protocols target restrictive networks, findcheapvpns and listify note. Surfshark offers obfuscation through its camouflage mode.

Test either from a filtered network before travelling abroad.

ZoogVPN’s network is small, roughly 35 to 55 countries depending on the source. Surfshark runs a much larger one, which gives more cities to choose from.

For less common countries, Surfshark has noticeably more choice of locations.

ZoogVPN is in Greece under EU law. Surfshark is in the Netherlands, owned by Nord Security, which also runs NordVPN.

Our VPN ownership guide explains why owners matter.

Surfshark vs ZoogVPN: who should pick which

Protocols and Kill Switch

Shadow and ZoogTLS matter mainly on networks that block standard VPN traffic; on an ordinary home connection, OpenVPN or IKEv2 on ZoogVPN and WireGuard on Surfshark are the usual choices.

ZoogVPN offers OpenVPN, IKEv2 and L2TP plus its Shadow and ZoogTLS protocols, and documents a kill switch and leak protection, findcheapvpns found. Surfshark runs WireGuard and OpenVPN with a kill switch in its apps.

Turn the kill switch on before relying on either service.

Paying and Refunds

Card payments are the easiest to refund on either service; payment methods such as cryptocurrency or local wallets may follow different rules, so read the terms first.

One 2026 review notes ZoogVPN accepts Alipay and WeChat Pay and describes a seven-day refund; confirm both at checkout. Surfshark lists its own refund terms on its website.

ZoogVPN’s free plan is the lowest-risk way to test the service.

Surfshark’s Plans

Surfshark sells Starter, One and One+ tiers, from $67.23 to $121.23 for the first 27 months, and emails you 30 days before a long plan renews at its standard rate, its billing pages say. ZoogVPN sells one paid plan in monthly, yearly and two-year terms.

Who Each Is For

One sensible path is to start on a free plan, learn what you need, then move to a paid service. ZoogVPN fits that path well; Surfshark fits people who already know they want many devices.

Families with many devices and anyone who wants audited claims and a big network fit Surfshark. Budget users who want to start free, or travellers who need Shadow on filtered networks, fit ZoogVPN, accepting no public audit.

Try ZoogVPN free first if you are unsure which of the two suits you.

TVs and Streaming Sticks

ZoogVPN lists a Fire TV app among its platforms, Impulsec notes, and Surfshark has apps for Amazon’s newer Vega OS sticks as well as older Fire TV models, our tables record. Neither offers Smart DNS for consoles in our sources. Our CyberGhost vs ZoogVPN comparison sets the two side by side.

For a Vega OS stick, confirm ZoogVPN’s support before buying a long plan.

How We Research

This page draws on Surfshark’s pricing pages, findcheapvpns’ ZoogVPN safety check, listify’s 2026 VPN comparison, WP Room’s and BestVPNListing’s ZoogVPN reviews and our audit and price tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is findcheapvpns’ ZoogVPN safety check. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
