Surfshark vs PrivadoVPN matches two budget favourites with different strengths. Surfshark, a Nord Security brand from the Netherlands, allows unlimited devices, has two audits in our table and costs $67.23 for its first 27 months on Starter. PrivadoVPN, organised under Icelandic law since May 2026, has no independent audit in our table but offers a free plan of 10 GB a month on one device and a Premium plan from $1.11 a month on two years, with 10 devices and a SOCKS5 proxy.
This guide compares devices, evidence, free use, cost, streaming and fit.
Surfshark vs PrivadoVPN: Many Devices or Lowest Price
Surfshark’s unlimited devices let one account cover every phone, laptop and TV in a home. PrivadoVPN caps paid plans at 10 devices but costs less and starts free.
Large households lean towards Surfshark; single users on a tight budget lean towards PrivadoVPN.

Surfshark vs PrivadoVPN on Evidence and Free Use
Surfshark has two audits in our table. PrivadoVPN has none in our table, though one 2026 review calls its policy independently audited, which we could not confirm; PCWorld notes it collects device and traffic data to enforce plan limits.
Our VPN audit tracker compares providers.
PrivadoVPN’s free plan gives 10 GB a month on one device, and Top10VPN found it opened US and UK Netflix. Surfshark has no free plan.
For a free start, PrivadoVPN is the only option of the two.
Cost Over Time and Features
Surfshark Starter costs $67.23 for 27 months, then about $79 a year according to Security.org and VPNOverview. PrivadoVPN Premium costs $1.11 a month on two years.
PrivadoVPN is cheaper; check both renewal prices at checkout before you commit. Our renewal price guide compares.

Surfshark adds CleanWeb ad blocking and higher tiers with extra services. PrivadoVPN includes SOCKS5 on Premium, a kill switch that passed TechRadar’s stress tests, split tunnelling and its Control Tower DNS blocker.
PrivadoVPN’s SOCKS5 suits torrent users; Surfshark’s extras suit busy households.
Streaming, and PrivadoVPN’s Free Tier in Practice
VPNOverview found PrivadoVPN opening Netflix in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil and Japan. Surfshark is widely tested with streaming, and its unlimited devices suit a home full of TVs and sticks.

Ownership, Jurisdiction and Surfshark’s Tiers
Nord Security owns Surfshark and NordVPN; Surfshark is based in the Netherlands. PrivadoVPN moved under Icelandic law in May 2026.
Our VPN ownership guide explains why owners matter.

Surfshark sells Starter, One and One+ plans, at $67.23, $75.33 and $121.23 for the first 27 months, its pricing page lists. One+ adds identity theft coverage of up to $1 million in the US, except New York State.
Starter is the tier to compare against PrivadoVPN Premium.
TVs, Streaming Sticks and Torrenting
PrivadoVPN’s Fire TV app works on all its plans, its blog says. Surfshark has apps for Amazon’s newer Vega OS sticks as well as older Fire TV models, our tables record.
Owners of newer Fire TV sticks should check PrivadoVPN’s Vega support first.
Kill Switch, Split Tunnelling, Linux and Who Each Is For
PrivadoVPN’s per-app kill switch passed TechRadar’s stress tests, and it supports split tunnelling. Its Linux support is for Premium only, through the command line or Network Manager. Surfshark includes a kill switch and apps for Linux too.
Test any kill switch by switching Wi-Fi off and on while connected.
Households with many devices fit Surfshark’s unlimited plan, with two audits behind it. Single users who want a free start or the lowest paid price, plus SOCKS5 for torrents, fit PrivadoVPN.
Start with PrivadoVPN’s free plan if you are unsure.
Surfshark’s Renewal Rules, CleanWeb and Control Tower
Surfshark renews longer plans at its full standard rate and emails you 30 days before renewal, except on monthly plans, its billing page says. It also warns that it may test different prices, including the renewal prices it shows.
Note the renewal figure at checkout and set a calendar reminder.
Surfshark’s CleanWeb blocks ads and trackers, and Cloudwards found it even blocked ads on Paramount+. PrivadoVPN’s Control Tower blocks malicious sites, ads, social networks and adult content at the DNS level.
Both add blocking without installing a separate app.
The first 10 GB each month run at full speed, then PrivadoVPN switches free users to slower servers, its App Store replies say. Tom’s Guide also found that some free servers are not physically in their stated countries.
Treat the free plan as a test drive rather than a long-term service.
PrivadoVPN allows P2P on selected servers and includes a SOCKS5 proxy on Premium, VPNOverview notes, which helps torrent clients run faster. Surfshark’s unlimited devices suit a home server or NAS alongside other devices. For a head-to-head, see our CyberGhost vs PrivadoVPN comparison.
Check which servers allow P2P on either service before you start a large download.
How We Research
This page draws on Surfshark’s pricing pages, PrivadoVPN’s Wikipedia entry, VPNOverview’s, Top10VPN’s, PCWorld’s and TechRadar’s PrivadoVPN coverage and our audit and price tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is PrivadoVPN’s Wikipedia entry. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
