Hotspot Shield Disney Plus results split testers in 2026. Security.org found Disney+ detected the VPN every time, even though Netflix, Max, Prime Video and BBC iPlayer worked. Comparitech’s August 2026 lab test put its Disney+ US success rate at about 54%, among the three lowest. TheBestVPN got Disney+ working after switching to US West servers, and HighTechSociety found Disney+ sometimes stayed blocked.
This guide covers the results, a setup that improves your odds and providers with stronger Disney+ records.
Test Results Compared
Security.org, September 2026: never accessed Disney+. Comparitech, August 2026: 54.26% Disney+ US success, among the three lowest alongside CyberGhost and Mullvad, while keeping 91% of speed. TheBestVPN: Disney+ US worked on US West servers. HighTechSociety: Disney+ and Hulu sometimes blocked. Gizmodo’s October 2026 ranking found Prime Video, Netflix Japan, ITV and HBO Max blocked it.

Hotspot Shield Disney Plus Setup
Use Premium, since the free plan offers one location. Pick a US West server, as TheBestVPN did, keep the Hydra protocol for its kill switch, and connect before opening Disney+. If it detects the VPN, close the app, clear its cache and try another US server. Our Hotspot Shield free guide covers the free limits.

Why Results Differ
Disney+ updates its VPN detection, and Comparitech’s lab shows Hotspot Shield succeeding about half the time. One tester’s success and another’s failure can both be accurate on different days and servers. That is why repeated attempts on several US servers matter.
What Works Better on Hotspot Shield
Security.org found Netflix, Max, Prime Video, BBC iPlayer and Crunchyroll worked. HighTechSociety reached Netflix in the US, UK, Germany, Japan and Canada. If Disney+ is one service among many, Hotspot Shield may still suit you. Our Hotspot Shield Android TV guide covers streaming on TVs.
Hotspot Shield Disney Plus on TVs
Hotspot Shield’s Android app runs on Android TV, and GeekChamp lists Fire TV support. Use the same approach on the TV: a US West server, Hydra, and a fresh start of the Disney+ app. Apple TV has no Hotspot Shield app in the listings we read.
Speed Is Not the Problem
Comparitech’s lab kept 91% of line speed on US servers, the best of its group. Disney+ failures come from detection, not slow connections, so switching servers matters more than switching protocol for speed.
Testing Within the Refund Window
The 45-day refund window is long enough to test Disney+ on several US servers over different days. Note which servers worked, and ask for a refund if none do reliably.
A Quick Rule
Disney+ is a nice extra? Hotspot Shield may do, with US West servers. Disney+ is the main reason? Choose Surfshark, NordVPN, ExpressVPN or Proton VPN, which ranked higher in Comparitech’s lab.
Free Plan and Disney+
Security.org found the free plan offers one virtual location and slow mobile speeds. That single location is unlikely to be the US West server that worked for TheBestVPN, so Hotspot Shield Disney Plus attempts need Premium.
Checking for Leaks
Disney+ can read DNS and browser data. Run our DNS leak guide and our WebRTC leak guide before blaming the server.
Several Devices
Check the device count for your Hotspot Shield plan at checkout. Each device can try a different US server, which helps find one that Disney+ accepts.
Is Hotspot Shield Disney Plus Access Worth Paying For?
If you mainly want Netflix, Max, Prime Video or iPlayer, which Security.org reached, Hotspot Shield remains an option, with Disney+ as a sometimes-working extra. If Disney+ is the main reason you want a VPN, the lab results point to rivals.
Keeping It Updated
App updates can reset protocol and server choices. After updating, confirm Hydra and your favourite US West server before opening Disney+.
Quick Check
Search Disney+ for a title that is only in the US catalogue. If it plays, you are through; if Disney+ shows an error, switch to another US server and retry. Note which servers work.
Other Services on Hotspot Shield
Gizmodo’s October 2026 ranking found Prime Video, Netflix Japan, ITV and HBO Max blocked it, while Security.org reached Max and Prime Video. Results vary by tester and date.
Browser or App
If the Disney+ website detects the VPN, try the app, or clear the browser’s cookies first. Browsers can expose location through WebRTC and stored cookies.
Providers With Stronger Disney+ Results
Comparitech’s August 2026 ranking put Surfshark, NordVPN, ExpressVPN and Proton VPN ahead. ExpressVPN belongs to Kape, which also owns CyberGhost. Our Disney+ VPN guide compares them; NordVPN and Surfshark share an owner, Nord Security.

Hotspot Shield’s Record
Hotspot Shield belongs to Point Wild. Our audit table notes its protocol was audited, not its no-logs policy. Its 45-day refund window gives time to test Disney+ on your own network. Our Hotspot Shield review covers the rest.
How We Research
This page draws on Security.org’s Hotspot Shield review, Comparitech’s August 2026 Disney+ lab test, TheBestVPN’s, HighTechSociety’s and Gizmodo’s 2026 coverage and our Hotspot Shield tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 7 October 2026. The main source we relied on is Comparitech’s Disney+ VPN test. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
