iolo VPN comes from iolo, maker of System Mechanic, and CHOICE lists RealDefense LLC as its owner. It has servers in 20 countries, SafetyDetectives reports.
NordVPN does not sell PC tune-up software, so iolo’s only advantage is a single vendor for both. If you already pay for System Mechanic, you can still run NordVPN alongside it. That keeps PC care and privacy separate, which also makes each easier to replace later.
Speed
CNET measured a 2.9% speed loss on NordVPN, our speed table notes, a figure few rivals match.
SafetyDetectives found so-so speeds on nearby servers and slower speeds on distant ones. NordVPN is faster and has many more locations.
Two-Year Cost
On two years, NordVPN Basic costs $94.23 for 27 months, about $3.49 a month, then $139.08 a year, our tables show; monthly billing is $14.99.
CHOICE lists iolo VPN at A$112.00 a year or A$17.90 a month in Australia. NordVPN costs less, even before currency conversion. Over two years, the difference adds up to well over a hundred Australian dollars.
