TorGuard vs AirVPN is a match between two power-user toolboxes, neither with an independent audit. TorGuard operates from Florida, offers port forwarding, a SOCKS5 proxy, dedicated IPs and Stealth modes, and blocks BitTorrent on its US servers after a 2022 settlement. AirVPN, based in Perugia, Italy, publishes live statistics for every server, runs open-source clients, offers free port forwarding on up to 20 ports and needs no email, our review found. It has no independent audit, allows five devices and fails with major streaming services.
This guide compares them on privacy, torrenting, censored networks and fit.
TorGuard vs AirVPN on Privacy
Neither has an audit in our table. AirVPN offers live server statistics and open-source clients; TorGuard rests on how it handled the 2022 lawsuit. Italy is a Fourteen Eyes member and the US a Five Eyes member. Our TorGuard safety guide covers its record.

Torrenting
Both offer port forwarding. AirVPN’s is free on up to 20 ports. TorGuard adds a SOCKS5 proxy and dedicated IPs, but BitTorrent is blocked on its US servers. Our TorGuard SOCKS5 guide covers its proxy.

Censored Networks
TorGuard’s Stealth VPN and Stealth Proxy ranked second for China in GreatFirewallGuide’s 2026 testing. AirVPN’s Eddie treats every port as its own connection option. Our China VPN guide compares specialists.
Price
TorGuard Standard costs $10.99 a month, Security.org lists. AirVPN costs around €7 a month, falling to about €2.75 on its longest term. Our TorGuard cost guide covers longer plans.
Devices
TorGuard Standard allows up to eight devices and Pro 12, Fahimai notes. AirVPN allows five.

Apps
Tom’s Guide and Cloudwards describe TorGuard’s apps as glitchy, and its kill switch starts off on desktop. AirVPN’s Eddie client is open source but dense, with no graphical client on iOS.
Refunds and Testing
TorGuard’s refund window is seven days, decided case by case. AirVPN’s refund position is unclear, so its three-day plan is the safe test.
Routers
TorGuard offers an OpenWrt app, a config generator and pre-flashed routers. AirVPN works on routers through manual WireGuard or OpenVPN configs. Our router setup guide explains the trade-offs.
Streaming
TorGuard reaches Netflix only with a streaming IP on Pro or Premium, as our TorGuard Netflix guide explains. Reviewers report AirVPN failing on the major platforms.
Linux and Raspberry Pi
Both suit Linux. TorGuard publishes OpenVPN guides for Ubuntu and Raspberry Pi; AirVPN’s open-source Eddie runs on Linux directly.
Kill Switch
Turn on TorGuard’s kill switch after installing, since it starts off on desktop. Check Eddie’s network lock on AirVPN, and test either by switching Wi-Fi off and on.
Who Each Suits
TorGuard suits travellers to strict networks, users who need dedicated IPs and home networks with many devices. AirVPN suits privacy purists and self-hosters who want anonymous sign-up and free forwarded ports.
Support
TorGuard lists 24/7 support in its guides. Check AirVPN’s forum and support pages before relying on it for a server.
Keeping It Updated
After app updates, recheck the kill switch or network lock and your forwarded ports, since updates can reset them.
Quick Rule
Stealth and dedicated IPs: TorGuard. Anonymity, open source and a lower long-term price: AirVPN. Neither has an audit yet.
Privacy on Public Wi-Fi
Both encrypt traffic on shared networks. Turn the kill switch or network lock on before joining hotel or café Wi-Fi. Our public Wi-Fi guide explains the risks.
Several Countries
Check each provider’s server list for the countries you need. AirVPN publishes live load for every server, so check TorGuard’s site for its current list.
Families
TorGuard’s eight devices on Standard, or 12 on Pro, cover most households. AirVPN’s five suit one person or a couple, unless a router covers the rest.
Testing Both
Test TorGuard’s Stealth and port forwarding on day one of its seven-day window, and AirVPN on its three-day plan.
Dedicated IPs
TorGuard’s Pro and Premium plans include a free dedicated IP, residential or streaming, Security.org notes. AirVPN does not sell dedicated IPs in our review, keeping its focus on shared, anonymous addresses.
Value Over Two Years
AirVPN’s longest term costs about €2.75 a month. TorGuard Standard at $10.99 a month costs far more on monthly billing; check its longer terms in our cost guide.
Audited Alternative
If port forwarding matters and you want an audit too, Proton VPN offers forwarded ports through its WireGuard configs and five Securitum audits in our table, plus a free plan to start.
Sign-Up
AirVPN needs no email and accepts seven cryptocurrencies. Check TorGuard’s checkout for its payment options.
Is TorGuard vs AirVPN a Close Call?
Yes, for seeders. AirVPN wins on anonymity, open source and price; TorGuard wins on dedicated IPs, Stealth and devices.
Who Should Pick Which
Pick TorGuard for Stealth, dedicated IPs and router tools. Pick AirVPN for open-source clients, anonymous sign-up and free forwarded ports. Our TorGuard vs Astrill page compares TorGuard with a China specialist.
How We Research
This page draws on our AirVPN and TorGuard guides, Security.org, Fahimai, GreatFirewallGuide, Tom’s Guide and Cloudwards. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is Security.org’s TorGuard guide. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
