PrivateVPN vs PrivadoVPN compares two budget services with confusingly similar names and different strengths. PrivateVPN, from Sollentuna in Sweden, offers free port forwarding, dynamic dedicated IPs and a Stealth mode for about $2 a month. PrivadoVPN, under Icelandic law since May 2026, offers 10 GB a month free, Premium from $1.11 a month and stronger streaming results. Neither has an independent no-logs audit in our sources.
This guide compares the names, free use, torrenting, streaming, stealth, price and fit.
PrivateVPN vs PrivadoVPN: Two Different Companies
Their features differ as much as their owners.
Despite the near-identical names, no company links the pair. PrivateVPN is run by a Swedish company, PrivateVPN Global AB, one listing notes, while PrivadoVPN moved its legal home from Switzerland to Iceland in May 2026.
Check the spelling before you download, since app stores list both.

Free Use
Use PrivadoVPN’s free tier to check speeds at home.
PrivateVPN’s monthly plan starts around $8.99, Capterra lists, so there is no cheap way to test it short of a refund.
No card is needed.
PrivadoVPN’s free tier gives 10 GB a month at full speed on one device, then slower servers, and Top10VPN found it opened US and UK Netflix. PrivateVPN has no free plan in our sources.
Only PrivadoVPN lets you start without paying.
Torrenting and Streaming
Test first.
Check your client’s IP first.
PrivateVPN forwards ports at no extra cost and allows P2P on every server, Comparitech notes. PrivadoVPN offers a SOCKS5 proxy on Premium and P2P on selected servers, without port forwarding in our sources.
Seeders should lean towards PrivateVPN.
Results change over time.
VPNOverview found PrivadoVPN opening Netflix in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil and Japan in 2026. One 2026 review calls PrivateVPN’s streaming support weak.
For streaming, PrivadoVPN is the better bet.
Stealth, Fixed IPs and Cost
At home, stealth is rarely needed.
PrivateVPN offers a Stealth mode on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android and free dynamic dedicated IPs, a 2026 review notes. We found no obfuscation feature or dedicated IP for PrivadoVPN in our sources.
For filtered networks, PrivateVPN has the specific tool.
Compare renewals before paying.
PrivadoVPN Premium costs $1.11 a month on two years, about $27 in total. PrivateVPN costs about $2 a month on its longest plan, Comparitech notes.
PrivadoVPN is cheaper and has a free tier. Our renewal price guide compares renewals.

Apps and Kill Switch
One Capterra reviewer found PrivateVPN’s Mac client lighter on features.
Drop Wi-Fi briefly to test it.
PrivadoVPN supports split tunnelling and a per-app kill switch that passed TechRadar’s stress tests. PrivateVPN has no split tunnelling, and its WireGuard setup is manual, the 2026 review notes.
PrivadoVPN’s apps are the more modern of the pair.
Evidence and Base
Weigh that.
No outside firm has checked PrivateVPN’s no-logs policy, Comparitech notes, and Sweden sits in the 14 Eyes. PrivadoVPN has no audit in our table, and Iceland is outside the EU but inside the European Economic Area, where the GDPR applies.
Neither offers proof. Our VPN audit tracker lists audited providers.

Port Forwarding Detail
Allow only trusted IPs to reach an open port.
One 2026 review adds a caveat: port forwarding works on selected locations when you use OpenVPN, so check the Advanced view, which shows whether the current server offers a port, ProPrivacy notes. PrivadoVPN users get a SOCKS5 proxy instead.
Both help torrents in different ways.
Networks, Speed and Platforms
PrivateVPN lists more than 200 servers in 63 countries, Tekpon says, and ProPrivacy measured an average of 55.5 Mbps. PrivadoVPN runs servers in 60 cities across 49 countries, its Wikipedia entry notes, and its free tier keeps full speed until the cap.
Test both from home before paying.
PrivateVPN covers Linux and routers, Tekpon notes. PrivadoVPN’s Fire TV app works on all plans, but Linux needs Premium.
Check your device before choosing.
Proxies and Refunds
Ask for refunds in writing before the window closes.
Both offer a SOCKS5 proxy: PrivateVPN in its service, our tables record, and PrivadoVPN on Premium. PrivateVPN refunds within 30 days, while PrivadoVPN’s free tier lets you test without paying at all.
SOCKS5 speeds up torrent clients but adds no encryption.
Who Each Is For
Try PrivadoVPN free first if you are unsure.
PrivateVPN suits seeders, self-hosters and travellers who want free ports, a fixed IP and Stealth. PrivadoVPN suits people who want to start free, stream, and pay very little if they upgrade.
Mixing them up is easy; the features are not the same.
Seeing What Is Happening
PrivateVPN’s Advanced view lists the protocol in use, whether the current server forwards a port and the data sent this session, ProPrivacy notes. PrivadoVPN’s apps keep things simpler, with its Control Tower blocker in settings. We put the two side by side in our PrivadoVPN vs hide.me comparison.
Technical users will like PrivateVPN’s extra detail.
How We Research
This page draws on Comparitech’s and ProPrivacy’s PrivateVPN coverage, a 2026 PrivateVPN review, PrivadoVPN’s Wikipedia entry and VPNOverview’s, Top10VPN’s and TechRadar’s PrivadoVPN coverage. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is Comparitech’s PrivateVPN review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
