Hideme vs PrivadoVPN is mostly a contest between two of the best free plans around. Hide.me, an independent service from Labuan in Malaysia, removed its data cap and now offers eight free locations, Cloudwards notes. PrivadoVPN, under Icelandic law since May 2026, caps free users at 10 GB a month but adds about 13 locations and, in Top10VPN’s tests, US and UK Netflix.

This guide compares the free plans, paid features, torrenting, evidence, price and fit.

Hideme vs PrivadoVPN: Free Plans

Neither free plan needs a card.

Hide.me’s free tier has no data limit and no ads but excludes streaming, Tom’s Guide and Gizmodo note, and covers one device. PrivadoVPN’s free tier runs at full speed for 10 GB, then moves to slower servers, again on one device.

Heavy free users get more from hide.me; free streamers get more from PrivadoVPN.

Hideme vs PrivadoVPN for Streaming and Torrenting

VPNOverview found PrivadoVPN opening Netflix in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil and Japan in 2026. Hide.me unblocks Netflix on paid plans, with results that vary by region, VPN.com notes.

For streaming on either budget, PrivadoVPN has the stronger record.

Allow only trusted IPs to reach an open port.

Hide.me opens ports dynamically from its desktop apps, Cloudwards notes, closing them when a session ends. PrivadoVPN offers SOCKS5 on Premium and P2P on selected servers, without port forwarding in our sources.

Seeders should lean towards hide.me.

Evidence

Weigh that before a long plan.

An audit is a snapshot, not a guarantee.

Tom’s Guide reports a Securitum check of hide.me’s no-logs policy, while VPN.com calls its audit dated; the two disagree. PrivadoVPN has no audit in our table, and PCWorld says it collects device and traffic data to enforce limits.

Hide.me has at least some outside review. Our VPN audit tracker lists audited providers.

Paid Plans

Introductory prices hide the real cost, so check what each charges later.

Compare renewal prices too.

PrivadoVPN Premium costs $1.11 a month on two years, about $27. Hide.me costs $9.95 monthly, with its longest plan at $69.95, about $2.39 a month with two months free, Tom’s Guide lists.

PrivadoVPN is cheaper when you pay. Our renewal price guide compares renewals.

Protocols, Stealth, Devices and Platforms

At home, WireGuard is the fast default on both.

Hide.me supports WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, SoftEther and SSTP, VPN.com notes, plus StealthGuard. PrivadoVPN supports WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2 and adds its Control Tower DNS blocker.

For restrictive networks, hide.me has more options.

Count every device before choosing.

Both cover 10 devices on paid plans. PrivadoVPN’s Fire TV app works on all plans, and hide.me offers split tunnelling on Windows, Mac and Android, Cloudwards notes.

A router counts as one device on either.

Who Each Is For

If you mainly browse, hide.me’s free plan may be all you need.

Both are easy to install.

Hide.me suits free users who need lots of data, torrent users and travellers who want many protocols. PrivadoVPN suits free users who want streaming and anyone wanting the cheapest paid upgrade.

Install both free plans and compare them on your own connection.

Hide.me vs PrivadoVPN: who should pick which

Kill Switch, Extras, Network and Base

Hide.me includes a kill switch and IP leak protection, Tom’s Guide notes, plus SmartGuard and Multihop. PrivadoVPN’s per-app kill switch passed TechRadar’s stress tests, and its Control Tower blocks malicious sites and ads at the DNS level.

Drop your Wi-Fi briefly while connected to check either kill switch.

Hide.me runs more than 2,600 servers in 91 countries, VPN.com counts, from Labuan in Malaysia. PrivadoVPN has servers in 60 cities across 49 countries and sits under Icelandic law, inside the European Economic Area, where the GDPR applies.

Hide.me reaches more countries.

Split Tunnelling and Linux

Split tunnelling lets chosen apps, such as local banking, skip the VPN.

Hide.me offers app-based split tunnelling on Windows, Mac and Android, Cloudwards notes. PrivadoVPN lets you include or exclude apps from the tunnel too, and supports Linux only on Premium, through the command line or Network Manager.

Linux users should check each provider’s guide first.

Long-Term Cost and Accreditation

However, a free plan is the cheapest option of all.

Two years of PrivadoVPN Premium cost about $27. Hide.me’s longest plan costs $69.95, Tom’s Guide lists, so PrivadoVPN is far cheaper if you end up paying.

If you stay on free plans, both cost nothing.

Hide.me holds VPN Trust Initiative accreditation, our tables record. We found no comparable accreditation for PrivadoVPN in our sources.

Accreditation is a signal, not proof of what servers keep.

Speed on Free Plans

Pick a nearby location.

PrivadoVPN’s free tier runs at full speed until the 10 GB cap, then moves you to slower servers, the company told App Store users. We found no recent independent speed figures for hide.me’s free tier in our sources. For a head-to-head, see our PrivadoVPN vs Norton VPN comparison.

Test both from home during your usual hours.

How We Research

This page draws on Cloudwards’, Tom’s Guide’s, VPN.com’s and Gizmodo’s hide.me coverage, PrivadoVPN’s Wikipedia entry and VPNOverview’s, Top10VPN’s and PCWorld’s PrivadoVPN coverage. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is Cloudwards’ hide.me review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
