Private Internet Access vs PrivadoVPN (2026): Unlimited Devices or the Lowest Price

PIA vs PrivadoVPN pits a big-household VPN against a budget VPN priced from $1.11 a month. Private Internet Access, a US service founded in 2010 and now owned by Kape, allows unlimited devices and has had Deloitte audit its no-logs policy in 2022, 2024 and December 2025; Tom’s Guide adds that the policy has held up in court more than once. Prices start around $2.03 a month on long plans, fahimai lists. PrivadoVPN, under Icelandic law since May 2026, has no audit in our table but offers a free plan of 10 GB a month and Premium from $1.11 a month on two years, for 10 devices.

This guide compares devices, evidence, free use, cost, torrent tools, streaming and fit.

PIA vs PrivadoVPN on Devices

A router running either VPN counts as one device and covers TVs and consoles.

PIA sets no device limit, TechAdvisor notes, so a family’s phones, laptops, TVs and consoles all fit on one plan. PrivadoVPN allows 10 devices on Premium and one on its free plan.

Households with more than 10 devices fit only PIA.

Evidence

Court cases test a policy under real pressure, which no audit can fully replicate.

Deloitte audited PIA’s no-logs policy in 2022, its infrastructure in April 2024 and both again in December 2025, TechRepublic and PIA report, and Tom’s Guide notes the policy has held up in court more than once. PrivadoVPN has no audit in our table, and PCWorld notes it collects device and traffic data to enforce plan limits.

On outside proof, PIA is clearly ahead. Our VPN audit tracker compares providers.

Free Use

PrivadoVPN’s free plan gives 10 GB a month at full speed on one device, then slower servers, and Top10VPN found it opened US and UK Netflix. PIA has no free plan; it offers a seven-day trial through mobile app stores and 30 days for refunds on first purchases.

For a free start, PrivadoVPN is the only option here.

Cost

Introductory deals hide the real price, so compare renewal costs before committing.

PIA’s unlimited devices can make it cheaper per device for a large family.

PIA starts around $2.03 a month on long plans, fahimai lists, and PrivadoVPN Premium costs $1.11 a month on two years. Check both renewal prices at checkout.

PrivadoVPN is cheaper; PIA adds unlimited devices and audits for a little more. Our renewal price guide explains renewals.

Torrent Tools

PrivadoVPN’s free plan does not include SOCKS5; you need Premium for it.

Bind your torrent client to the VPN and check its IP before downloading.

Both include a SOCKS5 proxy: PIA on all plans, PrivadoVPN on Premium. PIA adds port forwarding and a token-based dedicated IP, while PrivadoVPN allows P2P on selected servers, VPNOverview notes.

For open ports and a fixed address, PIA has the fuller kit.

Streaming

Test the services you use first.

More server choices help when a service blocks one, which favours PIA’s larger network.

Streaming results change as services update their blocks.

VPNOverview found PrivadoVPN opening Netflix in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil and Japan in 2026. TechAdvisor found PIA’s streaming results a mixed bag.

For streaming on a budget, PrivadoVPN holds up well; test your services within any refund window.

Blocking and Kill Switch

Repeat the test after app updates.

PIA’s MACE blocks ads and trackers, and PrivadoVPN’s Control Tower blocks malicious sites, ads and other categories at the DNS level. PrivadoVPN’s per-app kill switch passed TechRadar’s stress tests, while RTINGS found PIA’s failed its kill switch test.

Test any kill switch by switching Wi-Fi off and on while connected.

Who Each Is For

Both are cheap enough that your device count usually decides.

PIA suits big households and torrent users who want unlimited devices, port forwarding and audits. PrivadoVPN suits single users who want to start free, pay the least and still stream.

Try PrivadoVPN free first; switch to PIA if your device count grows.

PIA vs PrivadoVPN: who should pick which

What Each Collects, Owners and Jurisdiction

PIA’s privacy policy says it collects your email address, payment details and location for tax purposes, RTINGS notes. PrivadoVPN collects device and traffic data to enforce plan limits, PCWorld notes.

Neither involves logging what you do online, but read both policies.

Platforms

PIA also has Smart DNS for games consoles.

A router covers any device that lacks an app on either service.

PIA has apps for Apple TV, Android TV and Fire TV, plus Smart DNS for consoles. PrivadoVPN’s Fire TV app works on all plans, while its Linux support is for Premium only.

For living-room devices, PIA covers more without a router.

Kape owns PIA along with ExpressVPN and CyberGhost; PIA is US-based. PrivadoVPN moved from Switzerland to Iceland in May 2026, and Iceland sits outside the EU but inside the European Economic Area. For a head-to-head, see our Mullvad vs PrivadoVPN comparison.

How We Research

This page draws on Tom’s Guide’s PIA review, TechRepublic’s, TechAdvisor’s and RTINGS’ PIA coverage, PrivadoVPN’s Wikipedia entry, VPNOverview’s, Top10VPN’s and PCWorld’s PrivadoVPN coverage and our price tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is Tom’s Guide’s PIA review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
