NordVPN, from Nord Security in Panama, has six audits in our table and costs $94.23 for its first 27 months on Basic, then $139.08 a year. PrivadoVPN, organised under Icelandic law since May 2026, has no independent audit in our table but offers a free plan of 10 GB a month on one device and a Premium plan from $1.11 a month on two years, with 10 devices and a SOCKS5 proxy.

Is the Premium Worth It?
NordVPN’s extra cost buys repeated independent audits, a large network and features such as Threat Protection and obfuscated servers. PrivadoVPN’s lower price buys the essentials, WireGuard, a kill switch, split tunnelling and SOCKS5, without the audit record.
If evidence matters, pay for NordVPN; if price matters most, PrivadoVPN covers the everyday basics well.

NordVPN’s six audits in our table include repeated no-logs checks. PrivadoVPN has none in our table; one 2026 review describes its policy as independently audited, which we could not confirm. PCWorld notes PrivadoVPN collects device and traffic data to enforce plan limits.

Free Use
PrivadoVPN’s free plan gives 10 GB a month at full speed on one device, then slower servers, with about 13 locations; Top10VPN found it opened US and UK Netflix. NordVPN has no free plan; its 30-day refund covers first purchases.
For trying a VPN free, PrivadoVPN is the clear choice of the two.
Cost Over Time, Devices and Features
NordVPN Basic costs $94.23 for 27 months, then $139.08 a year. PrivadoVPN Premium costs $1.11 a month on two years, a small fraction of that.

Both allow 10 devices. PrivadoVPN includes SOCKS5 on Premium and its Control Tower DNS blocker; NordVPN adds Threat Protection, obfuscated servers and dedicated IPs as an option.

Streaming, Jurisdiction and Ownership
VPNOverview found PrivadoVPN opening Netflix in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil and Japan in 2026, and Top10VPN found its Android TV app worked with US Netflix. NordVPN is widely tested with streaming services and runs a much larger network.

Kill Switch and Split Tunnelling
PrivadoVPN’s newer kill switch works per app and held up in TechRadar’s stress tests, though its on-screen explanation was imprecise, and it can include or exclude apps from the tunnel. NordVPN includes a kill switch and split tunnelling in its apps too.
Test either by switching Wi-Fi off and on while connected.
Fire TV, Linux, Refunds and Trials
PrivadoVPN’s Fire TV app works on all its plans, and its Linux support is for Premium accounts only, through the command line or Network Manager, its support pages say. NordVPN has apps for Fire TV, including Amazon’s newer Vega OS sticks.
Owners of newer Fire TV sticks should check PrivadoVPN’s Vega support first.
NordVPN refunds first purchases within 30 days, not renewals, and App Store purchases go through Apple, its support pages say. PrivadoVPN’s free plan works as a no-cost trial before you pay.

How the Free Plan Behaves
PrivadoVPN’s free tier runs at full speed for the first 10 GB each month, then moves you to slower servers, the company told App Store users. Tom’s Guide found that not every free server sits in the country it claims.
It works for light use and testing rather than daily streaming.
NordVPN’s Tiers and Control Tower
NordVPN sells Basic, Complete and Prime plans: $94.23, $121.23 and $202.23 for the first 27 months, renewing at $139.08, $219.48 and $296.28 a year, its pricing page lists. Basic is the tier to compare with PrivadoVPN Premium.
The higher tiers add services beyond the VPN.
PrivadoVPN’s Control Tower is a DNS-based blocker for malicious sites, ads, social networks and adult content, which you can switch on in its apps. NordVPN’s Threat Protection covers similar ground.
Both blockers work at the DNS level, so test sites you rely on.
Who Each Is For
