TorGuard vs PrivadoVPN pits a toolkit for technical users against a VPN you can use free. PrivadoVPN, under Icelandic law since May 2026, offers 10 GB a month free and Premium from $1.11 a month on two years, with SOCKS5 and streaming support. TorGuard offers port forwarding, Stealth proxies and plans for up to 30 devices from about $10.99 a month. Neither has an independent no-logs audit in our sources.
This guide compares free use, torrenting, censorship, streaming, devices, price and fit.
TorGuard vs PrivadoVPN on Free Use
Use it to check speeds on your own connection.
PrivadoVPN’s free plan gives 10 GB a month at full speed on one device, then slower servers, and Top10VPN found it opened US and UK Netflix. TorGuard has no free plan.
For trying a VPN at no cost, PrivadoVPN is the only option here.

Torrenting
Bind your torrent client to the VPN before downloading.
TorGuard lets you request open ports from its dashboard, Security.org notes, though it blocks BitTorrent on its US servers under a 2022 settlement. PrivadoVPN includes a SOCKS5 proxy on Premium and allows P2P on selected servers.
For open ports, choose TorGuard on a non-US server; for a proxy on a budget, PrivadoVPN.
Censored Networks and Streaming
Test from the network you will use.
TorGuard’s Stealth protocols and Stealth proxy got past firewalls in China, Russia and Turkey in TechRepublic’s test. We found no comparable obfuscation feature for PrivadoVPN in our sources.
Travellers to filtered countries should lean towards TorGuard.
Results change as services update their blocks.
VPNOverview found PrivadoVPN opening Netflix in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil and Japan in 2026. TorGuard’s Pro plan includes a streaming IP, TechRepublic notes.
For streaming on a budget, PrivadoVPN performs well.
Cost and Devices
TorGuard’s long plans cut the monthly price sharply.
PrivadoVPN Premium costs $1.11 a month on two years. TorGuard starts around $10.99 a month, fahimai lists, and its three-year Pro plan works out to $6.94 a month, Security.org notes.
PrivadoVPN is far cheaper. Our renewal price guide explains renewals.

A router counts as one device on either.
TorGuard’s plans cover 8, 12 or 30 devices. PrivadoVPN covers 10 on Premium and one free.
Home servers and small networks fit TorGuard’s top tier.
Apps and Kill Switch
TorGuard’s dedicated IPs suit sites that block shared VPN addresses.
Repeat the test after app updates.
PrivadoVPN’s per-app kill switch passed TechRadar’s stress tests, and it supports split tunnelling. TorGuard offers two kinds of kill switch but no split tunnelling, Security.org notes.
Test either by switching Wi-Fi off and on while connected.
Who Each Is For
Both lack audits, so neither suits people who need proof.
PrivadoVPN suits people who want free or very cheap protection, streaming and SOCKS5. TorGuard suits technical users who need open ports, stealth for filtered countries and many devices.
Try PrivadoVPN free first; pay for TorGuard only if you need its tools.

Platforms
Check that your TV or stick is supported.
A router covers devices without apps on either.
PrivadoVPN’s Fire TV app works on all its plans, including free, while its Linux support is for Premium only. TorGuard offers a Linux app with WireGuard and an OpenWrt router app, our tables record.
Linux and router users get more from TorGuard.
Owners, Jurisdiction, Buying and Support
PrivadoVPN moved from Switzerland to Iceland in May 2026; Iceland is outside the EU but inside the European Economic Area, where the GDPR applies. VPNetworks LLC runs TorGuard from Florida, a Five Eyes country.
Our VPN ownership guide explains why that matters.
Nearly every TorGuard review flags its checkout as confusing, fahimai notes, though it offers email, help-desk and phone support, its Capterra listing says. PrivadoVPN’s free plan needs no checkout at all.
Read TorGuard’s order page carefully before paying.
Speed
Pick a nearby server.
Busy evenings can slow any VPN.
PrivadoVPN’s free tier runs at full speed for the first 10 GB each month, then moves you to slower servers, the company told App Store users. We found no recent independent speed figures for TorGuard in our sources.
Test both from home at the same time of day.
Streaming IPs Explained
Ask support which servers suit streaming before paying.
TorGuard’s Pro plan includes a streaming IP, TechRepublic notes: a fixed address that is less likely to be flagged as a shared VPN server. PrivadoVPN relies on its regular servers, which VPNOverview found opened Netflix in five regions.
Both approaches can work; results change over time.
Who Should Avoid Both
Free use favours PrivadoVPN.
Anyone who needs audited proof of a no-logs policy should look at providers with repeated outside checks; our audit tracker lists them. Neither TorGuard nor PrivadoVPN has one in our sources. For a head-to-head, see our PrivadoVPN vs Astrill comparison.
For everyday streaming and public Wi-Fi, either may still be enough.
How We Research
This page draws on Security.org’s and TechRepublic’s TorGuard reviews, fahimai’s TorGuard coverage, PrivadoVPN’s Wikipedia entry and VPNOverview’s, Top10VPN’s and TechRadar’s PrivadoVPN coverage. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is Security.org’s TorGuard review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
