VyprVPN SOCKS5 support does not appear in any review or VyprVPN support page we read. Comparitech, Tom’s Guide and VyprVPN’s own help centre describe full VPN protocols, WireGuard, OpenVPN and Chameleon, but no SOCKS5 proxy. On Windows, Connection Per App, VyprVPN’s split tunnelling, can route only a torrent client through the VPN, which covers part of what people want from a proxy, with encryption added.
This guide covers what SOCKS5 does, the substitute and providers that include one.
What SOCKS5 Does
A SOCKS5 proxy routes one app’s traffic through another address without encrypting it. Torrent users like it because it is fast and hides their IP from peers. Your provider can still see the traffic. Our VPN vs proxy guide explains the difference.

VyprVPN SOCKS5 Substitute: Connection Per App
VyprVPN’s Windows app includes Connection Per App, which chooses which programs use the VPN. Adding only your torrent client mimics a per-app proxy, with full encryption on top. Our VyprVPN Windows guide covers the setting.

Chameleon Is Not a Proxy
Chameleon, VyprVPN’s own protocol, disguises VPN traffic on networks that block VPNs. It is still a full tunnel, not a SOCKS5 proxy. Our obfuscation guide explains how disguise works.
Providers With SOCKS5
PIA, TorGuard and PrivadoVPN Premium include SOCKS5 proxies, our guides record. Our TorGuard SOCKS5 guide covers servers, ports and qBittorrent settings. Check any provider’s current documentation, since proxy offerings change.

Why People Look for VyprVPN SOCKS5
Torrent users often search for a VyprVPN SOCKS5 proxy because they want only the torrent client routed, with gaming and video calls left on the normal connection, and less overhead. Connection Per App covers the first need on Windows. The second, lower overhead, is the price of encryption.
Mac and Phones
Connection Per App is documented for Windows in our guides. On other platforms, every app uses the tunnel when VyprVPN is on, so per-app routing may not be available. Check the app’s settings on your device.
Checking Your Torrent IP
Whatever route you choose, load a torrent IP checker in your client. It should show a VyprVPN address. If it shows yours, the client is outside the tunnel; check Connection Per App and reconnect.
Kill Switch for Torrents
Tom’s Guide found VyprVPN’s kill switch let apps with their own DNS settings send requests outside the tunnel. Turn off custom DNS in the torrent client and keep the kill switch on. Our kill switch guide explains why.
A Quick Rule
Need a real VyprVPN SOCKS5 equivalent? It does not appear to exist; choose PIA or TorGuard. On Windows and happy with encryption? Use Connection Per App. Want it simple? Run the full tunnel with the kill switch on.
Privacy Comparison
SOCKS5 hides your IP from torrent peers but leaves traffic readable by your internet provider. A full VPN tunnel encrypts everything, which is the stronger choice when privacy, not speed, is the goal.
Streaming Note
VyprVPN’s Netflix record has weakened: BitsFromBytes found it blocked on 16 of 22 libraries in June 2026, and Gizmodo listed it among VPNs that do not work well with Netflix. A proxy would not change that, since streaming services check addresses either way.
Several Devices
Sources disagree on VyprVPN’s device limit, five or ten. Connection Per App on one Windows PC does not affect other devices on the plan.
Testing Before You Pay
VyprVPN’s 30-day guarantee covers the first purchase. Test Connection Per App with a public torrent during that window, and check the client’s IP before downloading anything large. Our VyprVPN free guide explains the guarantee.
Ports and Incoming Connections
Seeders also look for port forwarding alongside SOCKS5. Our port forwarding guide explains what it does and which providers offer it.
Chameleon for Blocked Networks
If your reason for wanting a proxy is to get past a network that blocks VPNs, Chameleon is the tool VyprVPN offers for that. Our VyprVPN OpenVPN guide explains how the protocols differ.
Quick Check
After setting Connection Per App, open a browser and confirm it shows your normal address while the torrent client shows a VyprVPN one.
Keeping It Updated
After app updates, open Connection Per App and confirm the torrent client is still on the list, since updates can reset settings. Then run the torrent IP check again before restarting downloads.
Do You Need SOCKS5?
For most users, a full VPN with a kill switch is the safer choice. SOCKS5 matters mainly to heavy torrent users who want a per-app route with less overhead. VyprVPN allows P2P, our VyprVPN torrenting guide notes.
VyprVPN’s Record
Our audit table records one VyprVPN audit, by Leviathan Security in 2018, before Certida LLC of Texas bought the service in 2023. Tom’s Guide found its kill switch let apps with their own DNS settings send requests outside the tunnel.
How We Research
This page draws on Comparitech’s, Tom’s Guide’s and Impulsec’s VyprVPN coverage, VyprVPN’s help centre and our provider guides. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 7 October 2026. The main source we relied on is Comparitech’s VyprVPN review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
VyprVPN SOCKS5 FAQ
We found no SOCKS5 proxy in reviews or VyprVPN’s help centre.
Connection Per App on Windows, routing only the torrent client.
No; it is a full VPN protocol that disguises traffic.
PIA, TorGuard and PrivadoVPN Premium, among others.
Yes, per our VyprVPN torrenting guide.
The Verdict
VyprVPN SOCKS5 support does not appear to exist. Use Connection Per App for per-app routing, or pick a provider with a SOCKS5 proxy if you rely on one.
