IPVanish Free (2026): The Seven-Day Trial, the 30-Day Refund and Free Alternatives

Disclosure: VPNFin is reader-supported. If you buy a VPN through links on this page, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects our ratings — here’s our full disclosure.

IPVanish free use is limited to trials: there is no free plan. Tom’s Guide and VPNOverview report a seven-day free trial when you subscribe through the iOS App Store or Google Play, and TechRepublic found the trial account also signs in on a desktop. Yearly and two-year plans bought on IPVanish’s website carry a 30-day refund instead. VPNpro also describes a daily check-in giving up to two hours a day, which we could not confirm elsewhere. Our guide to IPVanish free trial covers how the trial and refund really work.

This guide covers each route, the conditions that catch people out, how to cancel in time and genuinely free alternatives.

The IPVanish Free Trial on Mobile

Download IPVanish on an iPhone or Android phone and start the free trial, which applies to yearly plans, VPNOverview reports. You enter payment details through the store, and the subscription starts charging after seven days unless you cancel. Our guide to IPVanish on iPhone covers the App Store trial, domain split tunnelling and Apple TV.

Tom’s Guide notes there is no free trial on other operating systems directly, so Windows and Mac users start from a phone. TechRepublic found you can still sign in on a desktop with the trial account, so one trial covers a laptop and a desktop too.

The 30-Day Refund

Yearly and two-year plans bought on ipvanish.com come with a 30-day money-back guarantee for new users, and monthly plans do not, our cancellation guide records. VPNOverview notes the guarantee does not apply to App Store purchases.

Thirty days is longer than the store trial, but you pay up front and claim the money back. Top10VPN says the refund then arrives automatically within 10 business days, while SafetyDetectives had to ask support for it. Our guide to cancelling IPVanish covers the steps and why to message support.

The Daily Check-In

VPNpro describes a feature giving up to two hours of free IPVanish access per day by checking in daily. We found no other source describing it, so treat it as unconfirmed and check the app before relying on it.

Even if available, two hours a day suits occasional public Wi-Fi use, not streaming or all-day protection. Check the app’s account screen for any such offer before counting on it.

Cancelling in Time

Cancel a store trial in the store: on iPhone, Settings, your name, Subscriptions; on Android, Google Play, Payments and subscriptions. Cancelling before day seven ends the trial without a charge. Uninstalling the app does not cancel it. Our guide to IPVanish for Android covers setup, the seven-day trial and split tunnelling.

For a website purchase, cancel in My Account under Subscription within 30 days, then ask support to confirm the refund. Note the start date when you sign up, so the deadline is easy to check.

What You Get During a Trial

A trial or refund window gives the full service: unlimited devices, WireGuard, the kill switch, split tunnelling and a SOCKS5 proxy, on 3,200 to 3,400 owned servers. Use the time to test streaming, speeds at your usual hours and every device you plan to use, one by one, including any Fire TV or Apple TV, since IPVanish has apps for both.

VPNOverview reached Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Max, Disney+ and BBC iPlayer, while VPNpro found streaming inconsistent, so test the services you watch on each device during the trial week.

Genuinely Free Alternatives

If you need a VPN free for longer, Proton VPN Free has no data cap and five Securitum audits in our table, and Windscribe Free gives 10 GB a month without needing an email. Both are funded by paid users rather than adverts, and both have had their no-logs claims tested in different ways.

Our Proton VPN free guide and Windscribe Free guide cover their limits.

Privacy and Ownership

IPVanish has two audits in our table, by Leviathan and Schellman, and owns its 3,200 to 3,400 servers rather than renting them, Top10VPN notes; VPNpro counts 568 RAM-only servers across 19 locations.

IPVanish’s parent, Ziff Davis, also owns StrongVPN, PCMag and CNET, our ownership table records. Our VPN audit tracker explains what the audits checked, which matters more than a free price.

Free Trials vs Free Apps

A trial from an audited provider gives the full service for a short time. An unknown free app may fund itself with adverts or data. Our free VPN risks guide explains the difference with research and breach examples.

Without any budget, a reputable free plan beats an unknown free app. With money to spend later, a trial or refund window tests the real product.

After the Trial

If you keep IPVanish, the two-year plan costs $57.22 for the first 24 months and renews at $89.99 a year, VPNOverview lists. The yearly plan costs $43.54 for its first year, and the monthly plan $12.99. Our IPVanish price guide compares every plan.

If the trial converts to a paid store subscription, the price follows the store listing, which may differ from the website.

How We Research

This page draws on Tom’s Guide’s, VPNOverview’s, TechRepublic’s and VPNpro’s IPVanish reviews and our IPVanish refund and price tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is VPNOverview’s IPVanish review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
