It shows no adverts, includes the R.O.B.E.R.T. blocker, and does not require an email to sign up at all, which few free plans allow. Windscribe Free Data Limits
Without an email, the allowance is 2 GB a month. Confirming an email raises it to 10 GB, and the allowance resets each month. That is enough for browsing, messaging and occasional maps on public Wi-Fi, but not for regular video streaming.
Ten gigabytes is generous among capped free plans. Our tables record PrivadoVPN at the same 10 GB, while TunnelBear gives 2 GB. Proton VPN and hide.me now offer free plans with no data cap at all. Our free VPN data limits guide compares them.
Locations and Devices
Free users choose from servers in 10 countries, against 69 or more on Pro, our tables record. Toolradar noted the free list had dropped from 11 countries to 10. You can pick the country yourself, unlike Proton’s free plan, which assigns one automatically.
There is no device limit on the free plan, so the same account can run on a laptop, phone and tablet. The data allowance is shared across them, though, so heavy use on one device leaves less for the others.
Privacy on the Free Plan
Windscribe keeps no identifying logs on free or paid plans, and its claim has been tested: a Greek court dismissed charges against its CEO in April 2025 because no user data existed, TechRadar and Tom’s Guide reported. Servers are RAM-only, Windscribe says.

What the Free Plan Leaves Out
Pro adds the full server list, unlimited data and port forwarding on Pro or with a static IP. Streaming results on Windscribe are mixed even on Pro; Security.org reported problems with Netflix, so the free plan is not a streaming tool.
Free users still get WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2 and Windscribe’s Stealth and WStunnel protocols for blocked networks, Findstack notes. That makes the free plan unusually capable on restrictive Wi-Fi, within its data allowance.
Windscribe Free Setup
Install the app from Windscribe’s site or your app store and create an account; an email is optional. Confirm an email if you want 10 GB rather than 2 GB. Pick one of the free locations, turn on the firewall, Windscribe’s kill switch, and connect. The firewall blocks traffic outside the tunnel, so a dropped connection never exposes you on public Wi-Fi.
Check the data counter in the app now and then, since the connection stops when the allowance runs out. When it does, the app tells you, and the allowance returns at the start of the next month. Our VPN test page confirms the address changed after connecting.
Windscribe Free on Phones, TVs and Browsers
The free plan works in Windscribe’s apps for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, and on Android TV: Top10VPN lists Windscribe among the few free VPNs with an Android TV app. Its browser extensions add a quick way to protect just the browser on a shared computer.
Streaming on a TV quickly uses up the allowance, so treat the TV app as a way to reach a service now and then, not daily viewing. On phones, connect on public Wi-Fi and disconnect at home to make the 10 GB last the month.
Windscribe Free vs Pro
Pro costs $9 a month or $69 a year, our tables record, and Windscribe also sells Build a Plan, which lets you pay for chosen locations. Windscribe’s refund window is only seven days, and void after 10 GB of use, its help article says, so test paid features quickly. It suits travellers who need a VPN on hotel and café Wi-Fi a few times a month, users on restrictive networks who need Stealth, and anyone who wants a free plan without an email.
