PureVPN vs PrivadoVPN pairs two of the cheapest paid VPNs and asks what separates them. PureVPN, run from the British Virgin Islands, is the only consumer VPN with a KPMG contract allowing unannounced audits at any time, VPN.com notes. Its Standard plan costs $58.20 for 27 months, then $47.95 a year, for 10 devices, with a 31-day refund. PrivadoVPN, under Icelandic law since May 2026, has no audit in our table but offers a free plan of 10 GB a month and Premium from $1.11 a month on two years.

This guide compares evidence, free use, cost, features, streaming, devices and fit.

PureVPN vs PrivadoVPN on Evidence

A scheduled audit gives a provider notice. PureVPN’s always-on contract lets KPMG inspect on any day, VPN.com explains. PureVPN carries a 2017 black mark, when it reportedly handed logs to the FBI. It has since moved to the British Virgin Islands and rebuilt its infrastructure. PrivadoVPN has no audit in our table, and PCWorld notes it collects device and traffic data to enforce plan limits.

On outside checks, PureVPN is clearly ahead. Our VPN audit tracker compares records.

Free Use

The free tier also lets you check speed on your own connection. If 10 GB runs out often, that is a sign to pay.

PrivadoVPN’s free plan gives 10 GB a month at full speed on one device, then slower servers, and Top10VPN found it opened US and UK Netflix. PureVPN has no free plan; it sells a seven-day trial for $0.99 that turns into a full plan unless you cancel.

For testing without paying anything, PrivadoVPN is the easier start.

Cost Over Time

PureVPN Standard costs $58.20 for 27 months, then $47.95 a year. PrivadoVPN Premium costs $1.11 a month on two years; check its renewal at checkout. Both sit at the cheap end of the market.

PrivadoVPN is cheaper up front; PureVPN’s renewal is clearly published in our tables. Our renewal price guide explains why renewals matter.

Features

Port forwarding lets peers reach your client; SOCKS5 speeds up the client without encryption.

PrivadoVPN includes SOCKS5 on Premium, split tunnelling, a per-app kill switch that passed TechRadar’s stress tests, and its Control Tower DNS blocker. PureVPN sells port forwarding and a dedicated IP as add-ons and adds a password manager and data removal on its higher tiers.

Torrent users choose between PrivadoVPN’s bundled SOCKS5 and PureVPN’s paid port forwarding.

Network and Speed

Speed varies by location and time of day, so test from home during your usual hours.

PureVPN runs more than 6,000 servers in over 65 countries and reached 700 Mbps in VPN.com’s tests, third of 22 providers. PrivadoVPN runs servers in 49 countries, Wikipedia and VPNOverview note.

PureVPN’s larger network gives more city choices and spare capacity.

Streaming

More server cities help when a service blocks one. That favours PureVPN’s larger network.

VPN.com credits PureVPN with strong Netflix and Hulu support. VPNOverview found PrivadoVPN opening Netflix in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil and Japan in 2026.

Both handle the main libraries; test yours within each refund or free window.

Devices and Platforms

Both allow 10 devices on paid plans, and PureVPN sells 10 more as an add-on. PrivadoVPN’s Fire TV app works on all its plans, while PureVPN offers a native Apple TV app and Linux apps with a graphical interface and command line.

A router running either VPN counts as one device and covers everything behind it.

Who Each Is For

Both are budget picks; the choice is about evidence and free use.

PureVPN suits people who want unannounced audits, a big network and low published renewals. PrivadoVPN suits people who want to start free, pay the least and use SOCKS5 for torrents, accepting no audit.

Try PrivadoVPN free first; move to PureVPN if outside proof matters to you.

PureVPN vs PrivadoVPN: who should pick which

Kill Switch and Linux

Test any kill switch by switching Wi-Fi off and on while connected.

PrivadoVPN’s per-app kill switch held up in TechRadar’s stress tests, though its on-screen explanation was imprecise, and its Linux support is for Premium only. PureVPN offers a Linux app with a graphical interface and the purevpn-cli command-line tool.

Refund Rules

Keep your receipt.

Card payments are usually the easiest to refund.

PureVPN refunds new purchases within 31 days, but not renewals, crypto payments or app-store purchases, its policy says. PrivadoVPN’s free plan doubles as a no-cost trial.

Ask for any refund in writing, and keep your order number.

Owners and Jurisdiction

PureVPN is run by GZ Systems from the British Virgin Islands, after moving from Hong Kong. PrivadoVPN moved from Switzerland to Iceland in May 2026, so some reviews written this year still list Switzerland. Neither belongs to Kape or Nord Security.

Our VPN ownership guide explains why owners matter.

How We Research

This page draws on VPN.com’s PureVPN review, PrivadoVPN’s Wikipedia entry, VPNOverview’s, Top10VPN’s, PCWorld’s and TechRadar’s PrivadoVPN coverage and our price tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is VPN.com’s PureVPN review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
