IceVPN alternatives make sense if you want an audit or reliable streaming. IceVPN is legitimate and generous with 20 GB free, but it is young, unaudited and weak at streaming, State of Surveillance found.
The services below have longer records and outside checks. Our IceVPN review covers what you would leave behind.
IceVPN Alternatives for Streaming: NordVPN or Surfshark
State of Surveillance found IceVPN’s streaming mostly broken. NordVPN and Surfshark, both from Nord Security, are the usual streaming picks: the first has 6 audits in our table, the second unlimited devices.

For Audited Privacy and a Free Plan: Proton VPN
IceVPN has no audit, and its network is partly rented. A free plan with no data cap and 5 audits in our table make Proton VPN the safest no-cost option, with paid plans from about $2.99 a month.
For Torrenting: PIA
IceVPN’s P2P terms are worth checking before torrenting. PIA is the torrent specialist here: port forwarding, unlimited devices and 3 audits by Deloitte in our table.
For Strict Privacy: Mullvad
If you want a long privacy track record, Mullvad has 10+ audits in our table. Mullvad keeps sign-up anonymous with account numbers and backs that with 10+ audits in our table, for about $5.40 a month.
For Lower Prices: PureVPN or CyberGhost
IceVPN Pro starts near $3.99 a month, Cloudwards reports, close to audited budget rivals. Cheaper audited plans come from PureVPN, near $2.15 a month with 4 KPMG audits, and CyberGhost, near $2.19 with 3 Deloitte audits.

For TVs and Routers
IceVPN’s apps cover the main platforms, but TV support is less developed. Smart TVs and consoles need either a TV app, which NordVPN and Surfshark offer, or a VPN router such as ExpressVPN Aircove. Our guide to a VPN for smart TV covers both.
Price Comparison
IceVPN Pro starts from about $3.99 a month, Cloudwards reports. The alternatives above run from free to about $5.40 a month in our price table.
Free or Paid
IceVPN’s free plan gives 20 GB a month on one device, so Proton’s uncapped plan is the main upgrade. Free users can choose Proton VPN, which sets no data cap, or Windscribe, which allows up to 15 GB, according to our refund table. Both are audited.
Proton’s free plan has no cap. Paid plans add streaming and more locations.
A Quick Rule
Uncapped free plan? Proton VPN. Reliable streaming? NordVPN or Surfshark. Torrents? PIA. Long privacy record? Mullvad.
Whichever you choose, compare its free or trial terms with IceVPN’s 20 GB before deciding.
Switching Without a Gap
Install the new VPN, test streaming and speed, then stop using IceVPN; free users have nothing to cancel.
Several Devices
IceVPN covers one device free and five on Pro. NordVPN allows 10, Surfshark and PIA set no limit, and Mullvad allows 5.
Check each provider’s free-plan device limit if you plan to stay free.
Families
For families, Surfshark’s unlimited devices beat IceVPN Pro’s five.
Count every device before choosing a plan.
Keeping Protection Running
If you used IceVPN’s manual WireGuard profiles on a router, set up the new provider’s router profile before removing the old one. Overlap both VPNs for a day or two, then uninstall the old one so its network settings stop interfering.
Testing an Alternative
Our guide to checking if a VPN is working covers the leak test; then try the streaming services that failed on IceVPN.
Retest the services that failed on IceVPN. That shows whether switching fixes the problem.
Try one of IceVPN’s rarer regions on each alternative to see what coverage you keep.
Ownership
Nord Security owns NordVPN and Surfshark, and Kape owns PIA, CyberGhost and ExpressVPN. Proton VPN and Mullvad are independent companies. Ice Privacy LTD, a Gibraltar company in the Icedrive family, runs IceVPN.
IceVPN’s owner is named too, so the main gain here is a longer record and audits.
Audits are what separate a young service from an established one.
What You Give Up
You give up 20 GB of free data with no card and unusually good coverage in Africa, South America and the Caribbean.

Check each alternative’s coverage in Africa and the Caribbean. IceVPN was strong there.
Leaving IceVPN
Free users can simply uninstall. Pro users should read the refund terms carefully, given the conflicts State of Surveillance found.
Pro users should note their renewal date and act before it, given the refund questions.
Are IceVPN Alternatives Worth the Switch?
For streaming or verified privacy, yes. For light free use, IceVPN’s 20 GB remains generous.
Many readers keep IceVPN’s free plan as a backup and use an audited service day to day. That costs nothing extra.
