UltraVPN alternatives make sense if its US base, shared privacy policy or reported leak concern you. UltraVPN is fast thanks to the Hydra protocol, but it has no audit of its own and shares a policy across several Point Wild brands.
The services below publish their own audits, and several operate outside the Five Eyes. We match each one to a need. Our UltraVPN review covers what you would leave behind.
UltraVPN Alternatives for Streaming: NordVPN or Surfshark
UltraVPN streams well, with BBC iPlayer working on its UK servers, so the switch here is about audits rather than access. For streaming, Nord Security’s two brands split the field: NordVPN with 6 audits and 10 devices, and Surfshark with 2 audits and no device cap.

For Audited Privacy and a Free Plan: Proton VPN
UltraVPN has no audit of its own, and reviewers call the shared group policy vague. Proton VPN brings 5 Securitum audits and a free plan with no data cap; paid plans begin near $2.99 a month over two years.
For Torrenting: PIA
UltraVPN allows P2P, but vpnMentor’s 2026 tests found an IP leak on one server. For seeding, PIA adds port forwarding and unlimited devices, with 3 Deloitte audits in our table and prices near $2.03 a month.
For Strict Privacy: Mullvad
If the US base is your main worry, Mullvad operates from Sweden with a much longer audit record. Mullvad needs no email, has 10+ audits in our table and charges a flat rate of about $5.40 a month.
For Lower Prices: PureVPN or CyberGhost
UltraVPN’s yearly plan costs $59.88, but its two-year plan later renews at $159.80. PureVPN, from about $2.15 a month with 4 KPMG audits, and CyberGhost, from about $2.19 with a 45-day refund window, cover tight budgets.

For TVs and Routers
UltraVPN focuses on computers and phones, with fewer TV options than the largest providers. NordVPN and Surfshark both offer TV apps, and ExpressVPN sells its own Aircove router for whole-home cover. Our guide to a VPN for smart TV explains the options.
Price Comparison
UltraVPN costs $7.99 monthly or $59.88 a year, ProPrivacy and Security.org report. The alternatives above run from free with Proton VPN to about $5.40 a month in our price table.
Free or Paid
UltraVPN offers a free app with premium upgrades, so audited free plans are a like-for-like swap. Two audited free tiers stand out: Proton VPN, with no data cap, and Windscribe, with up to 15 GB, our refund table notes.
A Quick Rule
Need an audit outside the US? Proton VPN or Mullvad. Streaming on a TV? NordVPN or Surfshark. Torrents with port forwarding? PIA. On a tight budget? PureVPN.
Switching Without a Gap
Install the new VPN before cancelling UltraVPN, and run a leak test on each device. Then cancel, watching the renewal date if you are on a two-year plan.
Several Devices
Check your UltraVPN plan’s device limit against the alternatives: NordVPN allows 10, Surfshark and PIA set no limit, and Mullvad allows 5, our device table records.
Install the new app on your TV or streaming stick too, if UltraVPN covered it before.
Families
For households, Surfshark’s unlimited devices avoid counting connections. Check that each family device has a supported app first.
Keeping Protection Running
If you used Tor over VPN on UltraVPN, note that few alternatives offer it; Proton VPN does on some servers. Install the new app everywhere first, test it, and only then remove the old one. That avoids a day without protection.
Testing an Alternative
Run the same leak test on each candidate, especially if UltraVPN’s reported leak prompted the switch. Our guide to checking if a VPN is working covers the steps.
Check iPlayer and your other services on each candidate, since UltraVPN handled them well. A switch should not cost you access.
Ownership
Nord Security owns NordVPN and Surfshark, and Kape owns PIA, CyberGhost and ExpressVPN. Proton VPN and Mullvad are independent companies. UltraVPN belongs to Point Wild, the US group behind Hotspot Shield and Betternet.
Point Wild’s other VPN, Hotspot Shield, shares UltraVPN’s Hydra technology. Switching within the group changes little on privacy.
What You Give Up
You give up Hydra’s speed and Tor over VPN on every server. Audited alternatives match the speed closely, but Tor over VPN is rarer.

Leaving UltraVPN
Cancel before your plan renews; the two-year plan jumps to $159.80 per two years later. Keep the cancellation confirmation.
Are UltraVPN Alternatives Worth the Switch?
If audits or a non-US base matter to you, the switch is worth it. If you mainly stream, UltraVPN already does that well.
