A VPN for Israel is mostly a question of one server. Israeli broadcasters such as N12, Kan 11 and Now 14 check where a connection comes from and block anything outside the country, so an Israeli abroad needs an Israeli IP address to keep watching. Gizmodo’s August 2026 guide found that most VPNs have no Israeli servers at all, and some that do fail the broadcasters’ checks.
Inside Israel, the internet is largely open and using a VPN is legal. The reasons to use one there are the familiar ones: public Wi-Fi, privacy and foreign libraries. This guide covers both groups, and the one notable state block of recent years.
VPN for Israel: The Short Answer

Watching Israeli TV From Abroad
The broadcasters geo-block. N12, Kan 11, Now 14 and Hala TV stop loading once you leave Israel, Gizmodo reports, because they check for an Israeli address. A VPN server in Israel supplies one.
Having a server is not enough. Gizmodo warns that some providers list Israeli servers and still get detected, so the channel refuses to load. If that happens, the provider is the problem rather than your settings.

Using a VPN Inside Israel

Foreign streaming libraries. Netflix and Prime Video are available in Israel with local catalogues. A VPN can reach other countries’ libraries, though services block VPN addresses.

What Israel Blocks
Very little, by regional standards. Israel does not run broad platform bans of the kind seen in several neighbouring countries.
The notable exception is Al Jazeera. In 2024 the government used a new law on foreign broadcasters to take the channel off cable and satellite and block access to its websites, citing national security, Gulf News reported. The Supreme Court described the measure as precedent-setting. Check the current position, as orders under that law have been time-limited and renewed.
