Can you install a VPN on a Samsung TV? No. Samsung TVs run Tizen, which doesn’t support VPN apps, as NordVPN and Cybernews both confirm, so there is nothing to download from Samsung’s app store. You still have four working options: a VPN on your router, a streaming stick that runs VPN apps, sharing a VPN connection from a computer, or a Smart DNS service entered in the TV’s network settings. Only the first three encrypt your traffic.

Smart DNS doesn’t encrypt anything, ExpressVPN states of its own MediaStreamer service, whose steps these follow. It changes only how the TV looks up streaming addresses. NordVPN also offers Smart DNS for screens without apps, Gizmodo notes; Surfshark, which shares a parent company, Nord Security, with NordVPN, retired its version in February 2026, as our Surfshark smart TV guide explains.
Router, Computer Sharing and Mirroring

Mirroring differs from casting. Mirroring your phone’s screen sends what the phone plays, so the phone’s VPN applies; casting apps can make the TV fetch the stream itself, bypassing the phone’s VPN.
