ExpressVPN vs VyprVPN is a contest between a premium streamer and a VPN built around getting past blocks. ExpressVPN, owned by Kape and based in the British Virgin Islands, lists 27 independent audits by May 2026, including three KPMG no-logs reports, allows 10, 12 or 14 devices by tier and uses its own Lightway protocol with post-quantum key exchange by default. Its pricing page listed Basic at $83.72 for the first 28 months during a September 2026 promotion, renewing at $99.95 a year. VyprVPN has one audit, by Leviathan Security in 2018, before Certida LLC of Texas bought it in 2023. Its Chameleon protocol targets networks that block VPNs, but BitsFromBytes found Netflix blocked it on 16 of 22 libraries in June 2026.
This guide compares them on privacy, streaming, blocked networks and fit.
ExpressVPN vs VyprVPN on Privacy
ExpressVPN’s three KPMG no-logs audits, part of 27 audits overall, are more recent than VyprVPN’s single 2018 audit, which predates its sale. Our VyprVPN safety guide covers its record, including a kill switch gap Tom’s Guide found.

Streaming
ExpressVPN reached Netflix in several regions in TechRadar’s 2026 testing. BitsFromBytes found Netflix blocked VyprVPN on 16 of 22 libraries in June 2026, and Gizmodo listed it among VPNs that struggle.

Kill Switch
Tom’s Guide found VyprVPN’s kill switch let apps with custom DNS send requests outside the tunnel, so turn off custom DNS in browsers. ExpressVPN calls its kill switch Network Lock; test either by switching Wi-Fi off and on.
Apps and Platforms
ExpressVPN covers Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, routers and TVs, including Vega OS. VyprVPN recommends its WireGuard Go client on Linux, as our VyprVPN Linux guide explains.
Is ExpressVPN vs VyprVPN a Close Call?
Rarely. ExpressVPN leads on audits, streaming and China. VyprVPN’s case rests on a lower list price and Chameleon.
Value Over Four Years
Our tables put ExpressVPN near $267 over four years. VyprVPN’s $60 list price is lower, but check its current renewal at checkout.
Split Tunnelling
VyprVPN’s Connection Per App works on Windows, Tom’s Guide notes. ExpressVPN offers split tunnelling on several platforms, including Android TV, its support pages say.
Who Each Suits
Streamers, travellers to China and anyone wanting recent audits suit ExpressVPN. VyprVPN suits budget users who rely on Chameleon.
Testing Both
ExpressVPN offers 30 days for new users; VyprVPN’s 30-day guarantee covers a first purchase. Test Chameleon early.
Several Devices
ExpressVPN covers 10 to 14 devices by tier. VyprVPN’s limit is disputed, so check its plan page before buying for a family.
Quick Check
After installing either, run our DNS leak guide and turn off custom DNS in browsers on VyprVPN.
Ownership History
VyprVPN was bought from Golden Frog by Certida in 2023, after its only audit. ExpressVPN belongs to Kape and has 27 independent audits on record, three of them KPMG no-logs reports.
Privacy on Public Wi-Fi
Both encrypt traffic on shared networks. Turn on Network Lock or VyprVPN’s kill switch first. Our public Wi-Fi guide explains the risks.
Quick Rule
Streaming, China and recent audits: ExpressVPN. Chameleon on a budget: VyprVPN.
ExpressVPN vs VyprVPN for Families
ExpressVPN’s tiers cover 10 to 14 devices. Families should confirm VyprVPN’s current limit, since sources disagree.
Jurisdiction
ExpressVPN is registered in the British Virgin Islands; VyprVPN operates from Texas under Certida. Our Five Eyes guide explains why logs matter more.
Keeping It Updated
After app updates, recheck protocol and kill switch settings on both.
Free Options
Neither offers a free plan. ExpressVPN’s 30-day guarantee covers new users, and VyprVPN’s a first purchase.
Support
Check each provider’s support channels during the refund window, especially for help with Chameleon on a specific network.
Speed
Tom’s Guide found VyprVPN’s servers grouped in seven hubs; pick the nearest. Test both at your usual time of day.
Blocked Networks
VyprVPN’s Chameleon and ExpressVPN’s Lightway both aim to work on restrictive networks; our tables record ExpressVPN connecting on every attempt in vpnpicked’s China testing. Our China VPN guide compares providers there.
Price and Devices
VyprVPN lists $10 a month or $60 a year; sources disagree on its device limit, five or ten. ExpressVPN renews at $99.95 a year and allows 10 to 14 devices by tier.

How We Research
This page draws on ExpressVPN’s pricing page, TechRadar’s 2026 Netflix testing, BitsFromBytes, Gizmodo, Tom’s Guide, vpnpicked and our audit and ownership tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is ExpressVPN’s pricing page. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
