NordVPN YouTube use splits into two very different things. Watching a video your country does not get, or keeping your viewing private on public Wi-Fi, works fine. Signing up for YouTube Premium in a cheaper country does not: YouTube told TechCrunch it detects users’ real country, and Google support told PCMag it cancels Premium on accounts with a falsified signup country.
What YouTube Said About VPN Premium Sign-Ups
In June 2024, a YouTube spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company has systems to determine where users are. When the signup country does not match where someone uses YouTube, it asks them to update billing to their country of residence.
A Google support agent went further with PCMag: Google was cancelling Premium memberships on accounts that falsified their signup country, with an email and an in-app notice. Noypigeeks adds that YouTube now requires a local card tied to an address in that country. We do not recommend the trick.

YouTube on TVs and Streaming Sticks

TechCrunch reported in June 2024 that YouTube detects users’ real country and asks mismatched accounts to update billing. PCMag added that Google cancelled Premium on accounts with a falsified signup country. BGR lists the US Premium price at $13.99 a month, so the savings that tempt people are real, but so is the cancellation risk.

YouTube adjusts video quality to your connection. A distant server shows up as a lower resolution rather than an error. If 4K drops to HD, pick a server closer to you within the country you need.
