Surfshark vs VyprVPN is mostly one-sided in 2026. Surfshark, owned by Nord Security and based in the Netherlands, has two Deloitte audits in our table, sets no device limit and costs about $2.49 a month on its long plan. VyprVPN has one audit, by Leviathan Security in 2018, before Certida LLC of Texas bought it in 2023. It offers its own Chameleon protocol for blocked networks, but Tom’s Guide found its kill switch let apps with their own DNS settings send requests outside the tunnel, and BitsFromBytes found Netflix blocked it on 16 of 22 libraries in June 2026.

This guide compares them on privacy, streaming, price and fit.

Surfshark vs VyprVPN on Privacy

Surfshark’s Deloitte audits and RAM-only servers give recent evidence. VyprVPN’s single audit predates its new owner, as our VyprVPN safety guide explains. Both note the kill switch matters: turn off custom DNS in apps if you use VyprVPN.

Streaming

Surfshark reached Netflix in several regions in TechRadar’s 2026 testing. BitsFromBytes found Netflix blocked VyprVPN on 16 of 22 libraries in June 2026, and Gizmodo listed it among VPNs that struggle. Our Surfshark Netflix guide covers its results.

Price and Devices

Surfshark costs about $2.49 a month for 27 months and renews at about $79 a year. VyprVPN lists $10 a month or $60 a year, with promotions lower. Surfshark sets no device limit; sources disagree on VyprVPN’s, five or ten. Our VyprVPN price guide covers its plans.

Blocked Networks

VyprVPN’s Chameleon protocol is built for networks that block VPNs, a genuine strength. Surfshark offers its own obfuscation through NoBorders. Our obfuscation guide explains how both approaches work.

Surfshark vs VyprVPN on Apps and Platforms

Surfshark offers apps for Fire TV including Vega OS, Android TV and Apple TV on tvOS 17 or later, its blog says. VyprVPN’s TV app has fixed settings, our tables record; our Android TV VPN guide compares TV apps.

Split Tunnelling

Surfshark’s Bypasser routes chosen apps outside the VPN on desktop and Android. VyprVPN’s Connection Per App does the same on Windows, Tom’s Guide notes.

Torrenting

Both allow P2P. Surfshark has no port forwarding, Top10VPN found, and we found no SOCKS5 proxy at VyprVPN. Our torrenting VPN guide compares providers with those tools.

Is Surfshark vs VyprVPN a Close Call?

Rarely. Surfshark vs VyprVPN tilts towards Surfshark on audits, devices, streaming and price. VyprVPN’s case rests on Chameleon for specific blocked networks.

Several Devices

A family with many phones, tablets and laptops fits Surfshark’s unlimited plan. VyprVPN’s limit is disputed between five and ten, so check before buying.

Speed

Tom’s Guide found VyprVPN’s servers grouped in seven hubs, so pick the nearest. Surfshark runs WireGuard across a larger network. Test both on your own line during the refund window.

Kill Switch

Tom’s Guide found VyprVPN’s kill switch let apps with custom DNS send requests outside the tunnel; turn off custom DNS in browsers. Surfshark’s kill switch is not on by default, Top10VPN found, so enable it after installing.

Smart DNS

Surfshark closed its Smart DNS on 2 February 2026, its support pages say. VyprVPN’s VyprDNS keeps lookups on its own servers in the apps but is not a Smart DNS for TVs.

Who Each Suits

Keeping It Updated

After app updates, recheck the kill switch and protocol on both, since updates can reset them.

Renewal

Surfshark renews at about $79 a year in our table. VyprVPN lists $60 a year; check its checkout for the current renewal.

Support

Check each provider’s support channels during the refund window, especially if you rely on Chameleon on a specific network.

Quick Rule

Unlimited devices and streaming: Surfshark. A protocol for blocked networks: VyprVPN. Test either within its refund window.

Free Options

Neither offers a free plan. Surfshark’s seven-day trial needs a card; VyprVPN offers no trial, only its 30-day guarantee on a first purchase. Our free VPN trial guide explains how trials work.

Privacy on Public Wi-Fi

Both encrypt traffic on shared networks. Turn on the kill switch first, and connect before signing in to anything. Our public Wi-Fi guide explains the risks.

Ownership

Surfshark shares an owner, Nord Security, with NordVPN. VyprVPN belongs to Certida LLC of Texas since 2023. Our VPN ownership guide explains why ownership matters.

Testing Both

Surfshark offers a 30-day refund and a seven-day trial with a card. VyprVPN’s 30-day guarantee covers a first purchase only.

Who Should Pick Which

Pick Surfshark for audited privacy, streaming and unlimited devices. Pick VyprVPN mainly if Chameleon solves a specific network block for you. Our NordVPN vs VyprVPN page compares VyprVPN with another leader.

How We Research

This page draws on our audit, device, price and ownership tables, Tom’s Guide’s VyprVPN review, BitsFromBytes, Gizmodo and TechRadar’s 2026 Netflix testing. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is Tom’s Guide’s VyprVPN review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
