A VPN for Chile is rarely about censorship. In August 2024 Chile’s Congress classified internet access as a public service, and Gizmodo describes a government that supports internet freedom. The main reasons to use one are being Chilean abroad, when TVN, Canal 13, Mega and CDF stop loading, and privacy at home.

Chilean TV From Abroad
Chilean broadcasters geo-block, which is why a VPN for Chile matters abroad. TVN, Canal 13 and Mega limit their streams to Chile because of licensing agreements, Shellfire explains, and the same applies to La Red and the football channel CDF. A Chilean server gives you a Chilean address.
Server count decides reliability. Streaming services block individual server addresses. A provider with several Chilean servers gives you somewhere else to go. That is why VPNAlert singles out NordVPN and CyberGhost, and why providers with one Chilean server are a riskier choice for this job.

Banking From Abroad
Chilean banks may flag foreign logins. Windscribe, which sells a Santiago server, says banks such as Banco de Chile, BCI and Santander Chile, and some government services, often block or flag logins from abroad. A Chilean address can make those logins look ordinary.
Use it carefully. A bank may also treat a VPN address as unusual, so if your app objects, contact the bank rather than switching servers repeatedly. Our online banking guide covers the wider issue.
Using a VPN Inside Chile
Privacy from your provider. VPN sellers point to Chilean data retention rules; ExpressVPN, for example, says providers keep metadata for up to a year.
