IPVanish vs TorGuard compares two US services that both suit torrenting. IPVanish, owned by Ziff Davis and based in the US, has two audits in our table, by Leviathan and Schellman, allows unlimited devices and owns its whole server network, Top10VPN notes. VPNOverview lists $57.22 for the first 24 months, renewing at $89.99 a year, and VPNAlert reports a SOCKS5 proxy on 25+ servers in 14 countries. TorGuard, run by VPNetworks LLC, has no audit in our table and settled a 2022 lawsuit with film studios without disclosing records. It offers port forwarding, SOCKS5, dedicated IPs and Stealth, but blocks BitTorrent on its US servers. Its App Store listing shows $77.99 a year.
This guide compares them on privacy, torrenting, devices, price and fit.
IPVanish vs TorGuard on Privacy
IPVanish has two audits; TorGuard has none in our table. TorGuard’s 2022 settlement ended without it handing over records, our TorGuard safety guide explains. Both sit in the US, a Five Eyes member.

Torrenting
Both offer SOCKS5. TorGuard adds port forwarding and dedicated IPs; IPVanish allows P2P on every server, while TorGuard blocks BitTorrent on US servers. Our TorGuard SOCKS5 guide covers its proxy, at proxy.torguard.org on ports 1080, 1085 and 1090.

Torrent Settings
With either SOCKS5 proxy, VPN.ac advises disabling DHT, PEX and IPv6 in the client to prevent leaks. Our SOCKS5 VPN guide explains the set-up.
Payments
TorGuard accepts Bitcoin and gift cards, Security.org notes, which keeps payment details off a card statement. IPVanish takes standard payment methods.
Who Each Suits
Seeders, self-hosters and users who need a fixed IP suit TorGuard. Families and casual torrent users suit IPVanish.
Routers
TorGuard offers an OpenWrt app and guides for DD-WRT, pfSense and Tomato, our tables record. A router counts as one device on both.
Support
Check each provider’s support channels within TorGuard’s seven-day window, especially for port forwarding setup.
Kill Switch
Both apps include a kill switch. Turn it on, and with TorGuard’s proxy, bind the torrent client to the VPN as well.
Dedicated IPs
TorGuard sells dedicated IPs, ProPrivacy notes, though without a refund on that add-on. Check IPVanish’s current add-ons at checkout. Our dedicated IP guide explains when one helps.
Privacy Records
TorGuard’s settlement and IPVanish’s audits are different kinds of evidence. Our VPN audit tracker explains what audits check.
Stealth and Blocked Networks
TorGuard’s Stealth disguises VPN traffic where networks block VPNs, and it now tests a V2Ray proxy in TestFlight, our tables record. IPVanish closed its Hong Kong servers. Our obfuscation guide explains the methods.
Apps
TorGuard has its own iOS app with WireGuard, OpenVPN and IPSec, and an OpenWrt app for routers, our tables record. IPVanish has Vega OS and Apple TV apps; TorGuard has no tvOS app.
Is IPVanish vs TorGuard a Close Call?
For seeders who need ports, TorGuard leads. For households, evidence and refunds, IPVanish leads.
Quick Rule
Port forwarding, dedicated IPs or Stealth: TorGuard on non-US servers. Audits, unlimited devices and a 30-day window: IPVanish.
Devices
IPVanish sets no limit. TorGuard’s limit differs by source: five in its App Store listing, eight on its site, our tables record.
Price and Refunds
TorGuard’s App Store listing shows $12.99 a month or $77.99 a year. IPVanish lists $57.22 for 24 months and renews at $89.99. TorGuard’s refund window is seven days; IPVanish’s is 30. Our TorGuard price guide covers its plans.

IPVanish’s Network
IPVanish runs 3,200 to 3,400 servers in 108 to 113 countries, depending on the source, all owned rather than rented. VPNpro counts 568 RAM-only servers across 19 locations. Our VPN servers guide explains why ownership matters.
IPVanish Streaming Results
VPNOverview reached Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Max, Disney+ and BBC iPlayer with IPVanish in 2026, while VPNpro called its streaming access inconsistent. Test the services you use within the refund window.
IPVanish on TVs
IPVanish was among the first VPNs on Amazon’s Vega OS in November 2025, and it has an Apple TV app. Our Vega OS VPN guide covers the new Fire TV system.
Ziff Davis
IPVanish belongs to Ziff Davis, which also owns StrongVPN, Encrypt.me, PCMag and CNET, our ownership table records. Read PCMag and CNET coverage of IPVanish with that in mind.
Checking Either
After installing, run our DNS leak guide, confirm the address on our VPN test page and test the kill switch by switching Wi-Fi off and on.
Public Wi-Fi
Both encrypt traffic on café and hotel networks. Turn the kill switch on first. Our public Wi-Fi guide explains the risks.
Keeping It Updated
After app updates, recheck the kill switch, protocol and any proxy settings in your torrent client.
Who Should Pick Which
Pick TorGuard for port forwarding, dedicated IPs and Stealth on non-US servers. Pick IPVanish for audits, unlimited devices and P2P on every server. Our TorGuard review covers it in depth.
How We Research
This page draws on VPNOverview’s, Top10VPN’s and VPNpro’s 2026 IPVanish reviews, TorGuard’s App Store listing, VPNAlert and our audit, device and ownership tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is VPNOverview’s IPVanish review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
