IPVanish for LG smart TV use needs a workaround. LG’s webOS, like Samsung’s Tizen, does not run VPN apps, TheBestVPN notes, and IPVanish is not in LG’s store. IPVanish offers no Smart DNS service and no pre-configured router, TheBestVPN noted in August 2026. Devices without an app need a router running IPVanish or a connection shared from a computer. TVs running Google TV or Android TV, and Fire TV sets, can install IPVanish’s app directly. Its unlimited devices mean every screen fits on one plan.
This guide covers which TVs take the app, the router and hotspot routes, what to avoid and how to check it works.
Which TVs Take the App
Only TVs running Google TV, Android TV or Fire OS accept VPN apps, TheBestVPN’s 2026 guide notes. LG webOS, Samsung Tizen and Roku TVs do not. IPVanish has apps for Android TV and Fire TV, including Vega OS sticks since November 2025, and for Apple TV, our tables record.
Many Sony sets run Google TV and install IPVanish from Google Play. Check your TV’s system in its settings before choosing a route, since the brand alone does not decide it.

Google TV, Android TV and Fire TV Sets
On a Google TV or Android TV set, install IPVanish from Google Play, sign in and connect; the Android app can also connect on start-up, our tables record. On Fire TV sets, IPVanish’s app comes from the Amazon Appstore.
IPVanish’s Vega OS app, ready since November 2025, lacks the split tunnelling of the Fire OS app. Our IPVanish Firestick guide covers both.
IPVanish for LG Smart TV via a Router
A router running IPVanish covers the LG TV and every other device on the network. IPVanish publishes setup guides for DD-WRT, Asus and Tomato routers, Comparitech notes, using its OpenVPN configuration files.
Connect the TV to that router’s Wi-Fi or by cable, and it uses the VPN without any setting on the TV. Phones and laptops on the same router are covered too. Our router setup guide compares firmware options.
Sharing From a Computer
On Windows, connect IPVanish, then turn on Mobile hotspot under Settings, Network and Internet, and join the hotspot from the LG TV’s network settings. TheBestVPN notes IPVanish publishes a guide for this bridge on Windows and Mac.
The computer must stay on while you watch, so this suits occasional use, such as a film on a weekend. A travel router running IPVanish is a permanent alternative for one room.

Why Not Smart DNS?
Some guides describe an IPVanish Smart DNS service for LG TVs, but TheBestVPN found IPVanish offers none, and no IPVanish app exists in LG’s store. Instructions built on either are out of date or wrong.
If you only need a region change without encryption, Smart DNS from another provider is an option, set up on the TV or router. Our Smart DNS vs VPN guide explains the trade-off.

Samsung and Other Brands
Samsung’s Tizen TVs follow the same rule as LG: no VPN apps, so use a router or a shared connection. The same IPVanish account covers both. Our Samsung TV VPN guide covers Tizen in detail.
Hisense, TCL and Philips sets vary by model; check whether yours runs Google TV, which takes the app, or another system. The system name usually appears under the TV’s About or System settings.
Streaming on the TV
VPNOverview reached Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Max, Disney+ and BBC iPlayer with IPVanish in 2026. VPNpro found its streaming inconsistent, so test your services within the refund window. Our guide to IPVanish and Netflix covers which libraries work, and which do not.
IPVanish offers 30 days on yearly and two-year plans bought on its website. Our LG TV VPN guide compares other providers’ webOS options.
Price and Privacy
IPVanish costs $57.22 for the first 24 months and renews at $89.99 a year, VPNOverview lists, with no device limit. It has two audits in our table, by Leviathan and Schellman, and owns its servers.
Ziff Davis owns IPVanish, along with StrongVPN. Our IPVanish price guide compares the plans.
Checking It Works
An LG TV has no leak test, so check from a phone or laptop on the same router or hotspot. A streaming app showing the expected region is another sign. Restart the TV’s streaming apps after the VPN connects.
To stop using it, connect the TV back to your normal network. Our guide to turning off a VPN on a smart TV covers each route.
Fixing Common Problems
If the TV loses internet on a hotspot, restart the hotspot and reconnect the TV after IPVanish is already connected. If the region looks wrong, restart the streaming app; if IPVanish drops, its kill switch may block the connection until it reconnects.
IPVanish’s live chat runs around the clock. Our IPVanish troubleshooting guide covers the fixes in order.
How We Research
This page draws on TheBestVPN’s smart TV and Roku guides, Comparitech’s LG TV guide, VPNOverview’s IPVanish review and our IPVanish tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is TheBestVPN’s smart TV VPN guide. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
