This UltraVPN review covers a budget VPN with a large company behind it. Pango, then part of the US security firm Aura, bought UltraVPN in 2020, Comparitech and ProPrivacy report. Today that group operates as Point Wild, which also owns Hotspot Shield and Betternet.
UltraVPN shares Hotspot Shield’s fast Hydra protocol, at a lower price. The trade-off is privacy: a US base, a policy shared across several Point Wild brands and no audit of its own.
UltraVPN Review: Is It Worth It in 2026?
It is worth it if you want fast, simple streaming at a modest price. Comparitech measured strong speeds, and ProPrivacy found BBC iPlayer working on all UK servers.
It is less suitable if privacy comes first. The US sits inside the Five Eyes alliance, and reviewers describe the shared group privacy policy as vague.
What UltraVPN Costs
The monthly plan costs $7.99, Security.org reports. The yearly plan costs $59.88, which works out at $4.99 a month, ProPrivacy notes.
Watch the renewal on longer plans. After the first two years, ProPrivacy says the two-year plan renews automatically at $159.80 for each further two-year period. Our VPN renewal price guide shows how that compares.

The yearly plan avoids the long-term renewal jump. Compare it with the two-year plan’s total over four years before you choose.
The Hydra Protocol: The Reason People Choose It
UltraVPN uses Hydra, the same proprietary protocol as Hotspot Shield. With the app set to Auto, Comparitech measured an average of 211 Mbps across all its servers and tests.
That puts UltraVPN among the faster budget options. Note one thing about the source: Comparitech discloses that it belongs to the same group, Point Wild, which also owns UltraVPN.
ProPrivacy also highlights Tor over VPN on every server, and torrenting works on all servers too, ecommerceparadise reports.
What Reviewers Disagree On
Network size. The App Store listing claims more than 1,300 servers in 81 countries. Security.org counts over 1,000 servers in 120 cities, while ProPrivacy listed 389 servers in 85 countries.
Privacy. Comparitech describes the policy after Pango’s takeover as watertight. Other reviewers, cited by ecommerceparadise, call the shared group policy contradictory and vague.

Server counts change as providers add and retire hardware, so older figures date quickly. The app’s location list is the most current source.
Weigh any review’s ties to the company too, as we note with Comparitech.
Privacy and Logging
UltraVPN operates under US jurisdiction, ProPrivacy notes, and our Five Eyes guide explains what that means. We found no audit of UltraVPN itself.
⚠️ One test found a leak. vpnMentor’s 2026 testing found a confirmed IP leak on the Austria server, ecommerceparadise reports. Run your own leak check after connecting.
The App Store lists the app under Fast VPN Pro, S. de R.L., a company in the same group. Our page on who owns your VPN explains why ownership structures matter.
A shared policy across several brands means a change for one brand can affect them all. Read the current policy rather than older reviews.
Speed and Streaming
Speeds are the high point of this UltraVPN review, thanks to Hydra. Comparitech’s 211 Mbps average is well above many budget rivals.
Streaming is also solid. ProPrivacy found BBC iPlayer on every UK server and Netflix available through regular country servers. See our streaming VPN guide for comparisons.
Hydra performs best on nearby servers. Test a distant server too before relying on it for streaming abroad.
If iPlayer stops working on one UK server, try another UK location first.
Features Worth Knowing
Beyond Tor over VPN, the apps are simple, with automatic protocol selection. A free version also appears on the App Store, with in-app purchases for premium servers.
Premium members get 24/7 email support, according to the developer’s App Store replies.

Hydra is proprietary, so its code is not public. Point Wild’s other VPN, Hotspot Shield, uses the same technology, which gives it a longer record.
Who Should Look Elsewhere
If privacy matters most, an audited provider outside the US is a better fit. Our no-logs VPN guide covers the strongest records, and our VPN audit tracker lists them.

How We Research
For this UltraVPN review, we took prices, renewal terms and streaming results from ProPrivacy’s UltraVPN review, speed figures from Comparitech, and further prices from Security.org, read on 21 October 2026. The leak finding and policy criticism come via ecommerceparadise, and app details from the App Store listing. Comparitech belongs to Point Wild, UltraVPN’s owner, which we note where we cite it. Our scores weigh speed, security and privacy, streaming, price and ease of use equally. We do not run our own tests. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.

$7.99 a month, or $59.88 for a year; the two-year plan later renews at $159.80 per two years.
Yes. Comparitech measured an average of 211 Mbps using the Hydra protocol.
ProPrivacy found BBC iPlayer working on all of its UK servers.

UltraVPN
Fast and affordable, with privacy caveats
UltraVPN brings Hotspot Shield’s Hydra speed to a lower price, and streaming works well in tests. Against that: US jurisdiction, a privacy policy shared across Point Wild brands, no audit of its own and one reported IP leak.
The Verdict
Our UltraVPN review finds a fast, affordable VPN for streaming and everyday browsing, built on proven Hydra technology.
If privacy is your priority, however, a US base and a shared policy make an audited rival the safer choice.
