TunnelBear pricing is simple on paper: one paid personal plan, Unlimited, plus a free tier and a Teams plan for businesses. Tom’s Guide lists Unlimited at $9.99 a month, about $4.17 a month on one year ($49.99) and $3.33 a month on three years ($120). TechRepublic and Security.org quote $3.33 a month for one year as well, so the one-year price varies by source and date. TunnelBear does not publish its renewal price, vpnprograms notes.
This guide lays out the plans, the price ranges, what you get, and the refund rules that matter more here than with most providers. Our page on TunnelBear on Roku covers the two workarounds and the providers that make it easier.
The Plans
Tom’s Guide describes three tiers. Free gives 2 GB a month. Unlimited, the only personal paid plan, includes every feature with unlimited data and no device limit. Teams adds centralised billing and account management for businesses.
TunnelBear Pricing by Term
Every source agrees on $9.99 for a single month. For one year, Tom’s Guide says about $4.17 a month, billed $49.99, while TechRepublic and Security.org say $3.33, with TechRepublic citing $39.99 for the first year. TheBestVPN, writing in March 2026, gave $4. For three years, Tom’s Guide lists $3.33 a month, or $120.
TechRepublic notes the monthly and three-year options appear only after you click Get started on the Unlimited plan. Check the checkout for the current figure before paying.

Teams
TunnelBear Teams starts at $5.75 per user per month, Tom’s Guide and Toolradar report, with a minimum of two users; Zoftwarehub says three, so check the current minimum. Security.org notes five devices per user and a dedicated account manager. Tom’s Guide adds that Teams has a seven-day free trial for business users.
The Free Plan
Free gives 2 GB a month. Tom’s Guide notes it lacks city-level server selection, premium servers and customer support, and TheBestVPN reports that since early 2026 free users get a server assigned automatically. Our TunnelBear free guide covers the limits, and our free alternatives guide lists more generous free plans.

Refunds and Renewal
TunnelBear’s terms offer a 30-day guarantee only on the first year of an annual subscription bought directly on its website. The guarantee excludes monthly plans, Teams and purchases through iOS or Google Play, as our TunnelBear refund guide explains. There is no free trial of Unlimited, Tom’s Guide notes.
Vpnprograms found no published renewal price, only the from-$3.33 headline. Plans renew automatically, so set a reminder and check the renewal quote before the term ends.

Four-Year Cost
Our four-year cost table estimates about $160 for TunnelBear over four years, combining the first term with likely renewals. Because the renewal price is unpublished, treat that figure as a guide. Our Surfshark price breakdown and Proton VPN price guide show how other providers’ long-term costs compare.
Which TunnelBear Pricing Option to Choose
The monthly plan suits a short trip. Of the three terms, only the one-year plan qualifies for the refund guarantee when bought directly, which makes it the safest first purchase. The three-year plan gives the lowest monthly figure but locks you in without a guarantee after the first year. Households benefit most, since Unlimited sets no device limit.
Is TunnelBear Pricing Good Value?
For households with many devices, TunnelBear pricing works out well, since Unlimited sets no limit. Annual Cure53 audits since 2017 add to the value. Against that, the feature set is lighter than larger rivals’, with no port forwarding or dedicated IPs, and the refund rules are stricter than the usual 30 days on any plan.
TunnelBear Pricing for Students and Promotions
We found no standing TunnelBear student discount in the sources we read. TunnelBear pricing does change during promotions, CostBench notes, around Black Friday and similar events. Our VPN student discount guide lists providers that offer one, and our TunnelBear Mac guide covers the app you get for the money.
Quick Check
Before paying, compare the checkout price with the figures above.
Payment Methods
Tom’s Guide notes the website accepts cards only, while Google Pay and Apple Pay work through the app stores. Bear in mind that app store purchases fall outside TunnelBear’s refund guarantee.
How TunnelBear Pricing Compares
Tom’s Guide finds the annual rate cheaper than ExpressVPN, NordVPN and Mullvad, though dearer than Surfshark’s longer plans. Our renewal price guide compares long-term costs, and our guide to VPN prices covers the wider market.
For head-to-head comparisons, see our NordVPN vs TunnelBear and Proton VPN vs TunnelBear pages; NordVPN shares an owner, Nord Security, with Surfshark.
What the Money Buys
Unlimited includes WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2, the VigilantBear kill switch, GhostBear obfuscation on Windows and Android, and annual Cure53 audits since 2017. It lacks port forwarding and dedicated IPs. Our TunnelBear Windows guide covers the fullest app. TunnelBear has belonged to McAfee since March 2018.
How We Research
This page draws on Tom’s Guide, TechRepublic, Security.org, TheBestVPN, Toolradar, Zoftwarehub and vpnprograms on pricing, and TunnelBear’s terms of service. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 6 October 2026. Sources disagree on the one-year price; check TunnelBear’s checkout. The main source we relied on is Tom’s Guide’s TunnelBear review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
