IPVanish and Netflix work together for several libraries, with gaps. All Things VPN reached Netflix US, UK, Japan and India in 2026, and VPNRating found UK and Japan working but every Toronto and Vancouver server blocked for Netflix Canada. Other reviewers call IPVanish’s streaming hit or miss, so test the library you want within the 30-day refund window.
This guide covers library results, server choice, fixes for the proxy error, TV setup and speed.
Library by Library, and Mixed Reports
All Things VPN found Netflix US reliable on US servers, and UK, Japan and India working on local servers. VPNRating reached UK content on London and Manchester servers and the Japanese library on Tokyo servers.
Canada was the exception in VPNRating’s tests: Netflix detected and blocked Toronto and Vancouver. Our Netflix VPN guide compares providers library by library.
VPNOverview reached Netflix with IPVanish in 2026, while VPNpro found its streaming inconsistent and another 2026 summary calls it hit or miss. Results change as Netflix updates its blocks, sometimes from week to week.
Treat any single test as a snapshot, and check your own library on your own devices before relying on it.
IPVanish and Netflix Server Tips
Connect to a city in the library’s country and open Netflix only after the VPN has connected. If one city fails, try another; VPNRating’s UK success came from two different cities.
IPVanish owns its servers rather than renting them, Top10VPN notes, which gives it more control over its addresses. Note which city worked so you can return to it.
Fixing the Proxy Error and Protocol Choice
If Netflix shows the proxy or unblocker message, close it fully, switch server in the same country and reopen it a minute later. In a browser, clear Netflix cookies or use a private window.
Check for DNS and WebRTC leaks in the browser, which can reveal your real location to Netflix. Our IPVanish troubleshooting guide covers connection problems.
WireGuard is IPVanish’s fastest protocol, VPNpro found, and suits 4K Netflix. OpenVPN with Scramble disguises VPN traffic on restrictive networks but does not hide that the address belongs to a VPN.
Switching protocol can still help if one connection keeps failing, since it may connect you to a different server.
Netflix on TVs and in 4K
IPVanish has apps for Fire TV, Android TV and Apple TV, so Netflix there can run through the VPN. LG and Samsung TVs need a router running IPVanish, since IPVanish has no Smart DNS.
Our IPVanish smart TV guide covers each system.
Netflix itself recommends about 15 Mbps for 4K streams. Cloudwards found nearby IPVanish servers barely slowed connections, while distant ones fell below 80% in three locations.
For a far-away library, test playback quality on your TV before committing to a plan.
If You Need Netflix Canada
VPNRating found every Toronto and Vancouver server blocked, so IPVanish is a weak choice if the Canadian library is your goal. Try Montreal or another Canadian city if IPVanish lists one, and test within the refund window.
If Canada matters most, a provider with stronger Canadian results may suit better. Our NordVPN Netflix guide covers one.
Checking It Works
Search Netflix for a title you know is limited to the library you want to reach; if it appears, the location worked. If you see your home library instead, the app has probably cached your region, so clear its data and reopen it.
Run a DNS leak test too, since a leak can reveal your real country to Netflix even with the right IP.
Phones and Tablets
The Netflix app on phones caches your detected region, so close it fully or clear its data after connecting. Check that Netflix does not have permission to use your device’s location.
IPVanish’s Android app can exclude other apps with split tunnelling while Netflix stays in the tunnel, which keeps banking or local apps working.
Other Services and Privacy
VPNOverview reached Hulu, Prime Video, Max, Disney+ and BBC iPlayer as well as Netflix with IPVanish in 2026, while VPNpro found streaming inconsistent. Each service blocks VPNs in its own way.
Our IPVanish Apple TV guide covers streaming on a tvOS box.
IPVanish’s no-logs policy has two audits in our table, by Leviathan in 2022 and Schellman in 2025. It is based in the US and owned by Ziff Davis. Our guide to IPVanish and YouTube covers regional videos, privacy and limits.
Our IPVanish safety guide covers its full record, including a 2016 case under previous owners.
Terms and Price
Netflix licenses content by country, and its terms say content varies by location. IPVanish costs $57.22 for the first 24 months and renews at $89.99 a year, VPNOverview lists, with no device limit. Yearly website plans carry a 30-day refund; monthly plans carry none. Our guide to IPVanish and Disney Plus covers which regions work, and where results vary.

How We Research
This page draws on All Things VPN’s and VPNRating’s IPVanish reviews, VPNOverview, VPNpro, Cloudwards, Top10VPN and our IPVanish tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is All Things VPN’s IPVanish review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
