NordVPN Sky Go use matters most to UK subscribers abroad. Since 1 January 2021, after Brexit ended cross-border portability, UK Sky customers have had no right to stream outside the UK, PCRisk notes. Irish, German, Austrian and Italian customers keep portability in the EU. Comparitech found NordVPN working with Sky Go in its July and August 2026 tests.
Sky Go Portability by Market
PCRisk sets out the rules. Irish customers keep portability within the EU and EEA. German and Austrian customers can use Sky Go temporarily elsewhere in the EU and in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, subject to residence rules, and Sky Italia offers similar portability. UK customers lost it.
A VPN does not open another market’s content: a UK customer on an Italian server will not see Sky Italia, PCRisk stresses.
Setting Up NordVPN Sky Go Access
Connect to a server in the UK or Ireland, matching your subscription. Then open Sky Go. Outside those countries, PrivacySavvy notes, Sky Go says it serves only users in the UK or Ireland.

Fixing NordVPN Sky Go Errors
Switch to another UK server, clear cookies and cache, and update the NordVPN app. Open the app or browser only after the VPN connects. Our UK streaming guide lists services with similar rules.

What a VPN Cannot Change
With NordVPN Sky Go use, the rights still belong to your Sky market. A VPN restores your home library while you travel, but it cannot give a UK customer another country’s Sky content, and it cannot change your contract terms. UK or Irish Servers?
Match the server to your subscription. A UK Sky customer needs a UK server, and an Irish customer an Irish one. PCRisk stresses that a VPN cannot open another Sky market’s content, so connecting elsewhere gains nothing.
Irish customers have a further option. They keep portability within the EU and EEA, so inside Europe they may not need a VPN at all. Outside Europe, an Irish server restores the home library.
Sky’s VPN Detection
Comparitech describes Sky Go’s VPN detection as strict. Expect to switch servers from time to time. Clear cookies between attempts, and open Sky Go only after the VPN connects.
If a server works one evening and fails the next, it has probably been flagged. Keep a short list of servers that worked recently, so you can move through them quickly.
A Travel Checklist
Before travelling, install NordVPN on the devices you will watch on, and sign in to Sky Go at home. Test one UK server on each device. Turn the kill switch on, as our NordVPN kill switch guide explains, so a dropped hotel connection does not interrupt the check.

When Sky Go Will Not Play
If every UK server fails, contact NordVPN’s live chat with the error and the device. Support can suggest servers that currently work. If the problem is the Sky account itself, such as a device limit, the VPN will not help, and Sky’s own support is the next step.
Downloads Before a Trip
Sky Go’s apps can save some programmes for offline viewing, depending on your package and the rights for each title. Downloading at home, before you travel, avoids the VPN question entirely for those programmes. Check Sky’s own help pages for which titles allow downloads and how long they stay available.
For live channels and anything you have not downloaded, NordVPN on a UK server remains the route. Keep downloads for long flights and patchy hotel Wi-Fi, where even a working VPN struggles with live streams.
