PIA vs VyprVPN compares a torrent-friendly service with tested privacy against a VPN built around getting past blocks. PIA, owned by Kape and based in the US, has three Deloitte audits in our table, sets no device limit and offers port forwarding, a SOCKS5 proxy and dedicated IPs through an anonymous token system. In court, three federal subpoenas to PIA produced no user data. VyprVPN has one audit, by Leviathan Security in 2018, before Certida LLC of Texas bought it in 2023. Its Chameleon protocol targets networks that block VPNs, but Tom’s Guide found its kill switch let apps with their own DNS settings send requests outside the tunnel, and BitsFromBytes found Netflix blocked it on 16 of 22 libraries in June 2026.
This guide compares them on privacy, torrenting, streaming, devices and fit.
PIA vs VyprVPN on Privacy
PIA’s three Deloitte audits and its court record give two kinds of evidence. VyprVPN’s single audit predates its sale to Certida, as our VyprVPN safety guide explains. Both operate from the US; PIA belongs to Kape, which also owns ExpressVPN and CyberGhost.

Torrenting
PIA offers port forwarding and a SOCKS5 proxy, which suit seeders. VyprVPN allows P2P, but we found no SOCKS5 proxy there, as our VyprVPN SOCKS5 guide explains. Our torrenting VPN guide compares providers.

Devices
PIA sets no device limit. Sources disagree on VyprVPN’s, five or ten. Large households fit PIA more easily.
Blocked Networks
VyprVPN’s Chameleon protocol is its clearest strength on networks that block VPNs. Check PIA’s apps for their current obfuscation options, and test either before travelling. Our obfuscation guide explains how disguise works.
Dedicated IPs
PIA sells dedicated IPs through tokens that keep the address separate from your account, as our PIA dedicated IP guide explains. VyprVPN does not market a dedicated IP in our guides.

Streaming
BitsFromBytes found Netflix blocked VyprVPN on 16 of 22 libraries in June 2026, and Gizmodo listed it among VPNs that struggle. PIA’s results vary by service; our Netflix VPN guide lists stronger options.
Apps and Platforms
PIA covers Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, Android TV and Fire TV, Tom’s Guide notes. VyprVPN recommends its WireGuard Go client on Linux, as our VyprVPN Linux guide explains.
Several Countries
Kripesh Adwani’s 2026 review describes PIA’s network as 35,000+ servers in 91 countries. Tom’s Guide found VyprVPN’s servers grouped in seven hubs. Pick the nearest location on either, and test speed at your busiest time of day.
Split Tunnelling
PIA offers split tunnelling in its apps; VyprVPN’s Connection Per App does the same on Windows, Tom’s Guide notes. Our split tunnelling guide explains the feature.
PIA vs VyprVPN for Families
PIA’s unlimited plan covers every phone, laptop and TV app in a household. VyprVPN’s limit is disputed, so families should check its plan page. The PIA vs VyprVPN choice is clearest for large homes.
Ownership
PIA belongs to Kape, alongside ExpressVPN and CyberGhost. VyprVPN was bought from Golden Frog by Certida LLC of Texas in 2023. Our VPN ownership guide explains why ownership matters.
Quick Check
After installing either, run our DNS leak guide, and turn off custom DNS in other apps on VyprVPN.
Who Each Suits
PIA suits seeders, home-lab builders and large households. VyprVPN suits travellers who regularly hit networks that block VPNs and want Chameleon in the app.
Keeping It Updated
After app updates, recheck the kill switch and protocol on both, since updates can reset them.
Testing Both
Use PIA’s 30-day refund to test port forwarding and streaming. VyprVPN’s guarantee covers a first purchase, so test Chameleon early.
Privacy on Public Wi-Fi
Both encrypt traffic on café and hotel networks. Turn the kill switch on first. Our public Wi-Fi guide explains the risks.
Support
Check each provider’s support channels during the refund window, especially for router or Linux setups, and keep the replies.
Quick Rule
Torrents, dedicated IPs and big households: PIA. Chameleon for a stubborn network: VyprVPN. Test either within its refund window.
Court Record
PIA’s no-logs claim has faced three federal subpoenas that produced no user data, our NordVPN review notes, alongside its Deloitte audits. VyprVPN has no comparable public test of its claims.
Kill Switch
PIA offers a standard and an Advanced Kill Switch, Tom’s Guide notes. VyprVPN’s kill switch has a DNS gap for apps with their own DNS settings, so turn those off. Test either by switching Wi-Fi off and on.
Refunds
PIA offers a 30-day refund, as our PIA refund guide explains. VyprVPN’s 30-day guarantee covers a first purchase only.
Is PIA vs VyprVPN a Close Call?
Not for most users. PIA leads on audits, devices and torrent tools. VyprVPN’s case rests on Chameleon for specific blocked networks.
Who Should Pick Which
Pick PIA for torrenting, large households and dedicated IPs. Pick VyprVPN if Chameleon solves a network block other protocols cannot. Our PIA vs Windscribe page compares PIA with another rival.
How We Research
This page draws on our audit, device, ownership and refund tables, Tom’s Guide’s PIA and VyprVPN reviews and BitsFromBytes’ Netflix testing. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 8 October 2026. The main source we relied on is Tom’s Guide’s VyprVPN review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
