PrivadoVPN on Android (2026): Kill Switch, Split Tunnelling and the Free Plan

Disclosure: VPNFin is reader-supported. If you buy a VPN through links on this page, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects our ratings — here’s our full disclosure.

PrivadoVPN Android support comes through its Google Play app, which TechRadar installed and used without problems. The app carries a kill switch, split tunnelling that can include or exclude apps, and Control Tower, a DNS filter for malware. Paid plans add SOCKS5 proxies. The free plan gives 10 GB a month on one device. Store ratings hover around 3.5 to 3.8, TechRadar notes, and our audit table records no independent audit.

This guide covers the setup, the features, the free plan and the trade-offs of PrivadoVPN Android use.

PrivadoVPN Android Setup

Install PrivadoVPN from Google Play, open it and sign in or create a free account. Allow the VPN connection request when Android asks, pick a server and connect. Then turn on the kill switch, which TechRadar notes sits in plain view rather than in a buried menu.

Confirm the new address with our VPN test page and run our DNS leak guide.

Kill Switch and Split Tunnelling

TechRadar describes a new kill switch that passed its stress tests, though the in-app tooltip does not describe it accurately; test it by switching Wi-Fi off and on while connected. Androidpimp adds that it closes internet-enabled apps when the connection drops.

Split tunnelling lets you include or exclude apps, TechRadar says. Keep banking apps outside the VPN if they flag VPN addresses, or route only one app through it. Our split tunnelling guide explains both modes.

Control Tower and SOCKS5

Control Tower is a DNS-based malware blocker you can use through the app or set in your own DNS settings, TechRadar explains. Androidpimp describes it as including a smart DNS service. SOCKS5 proxies come with paid plans; on a phone they matter mainly for torrent apps that support them. Our VPN vs proxy guide explains the difference.

Free Plan or Premium on a Phone

The free plan gives 10 GB a month at full speed on one device, then limited-speed servers, as our PrivadoVPN free guide explains. On a phone, that covers public Wi-Fi browsing but not much video. Premium removes the cap and covers 10 devices, PCWorld notes.

PrivadoVPN Android on Public Wi-Fi

Phones join more public networks than any other device. Connect PrivadoVPN Android before you sign in to anything on café or hotel Wi-Fi, and keep the kill switch on so a drop does not expose your traffic. Our public Wi-Fi guide explains the risks. On the free plan, save the 10 GB for those networks.

Streaming on Android

TechRadar found Netflix libraries opening without switching servers, while Tom’s Guide found the free servers did not unblock everything. Use a paid server for streaming, and close the streaming app fully before reopening it after you connect. Our Netflix VPN guide covers the rules services set.

PrivadoVPN Android or Desktop?

The desktop apps carry the same core features, as our PrivadoVPN for PC guide shows. Premium covers both, so you can install it on the phone and the computer under one plan.

Battery and Always-On

Use WireGuard where offered, since it is the lighter protocol on phones. Turn on Android’s Always-on VPN for PrivadoVPN in the network settings, so the phone reconnects after restarts. Exclude the app from battery optimisation if it disconnects in the background.

Troubleshooting PrivadoVPN Android

If PrivadoVPN Android will not connect, switch protocol or server, then clear the app’s cache in Android’s app settings. Battery savers can stop VPN apps in the background, so exclude PrivadoVPN from them. Reinstall from Google Play if the app still fails after an update. Our Android VPN troubleshooting guide covers more fixes.

Tablets and Chromebooks

The same Google Play app runs on Android tablets and on Chromebooks that support Android apps. On the free plan, only one device can connect, so choose the phone or the tablet. Premium covers 10, enough for a household’s phones, tablets and laptops together.

A Quick Rule

Public Wi-Fi a few times a week? The free plan covers it. Streaming, torrents or several devices? Premium. Banking apps complaining? Exclude them with split tunnelling and keep everything else protected.

Turning It Off

Disconnect in the app, or switch Always-on VPN off first if you turned it on. Our guide to turning off a VPN on Android covers removing the profile.

Comparing Free Android VPNs

Proton VPN’s free plan has no data cap, which beats PrivadoVPN’s 10 GB for heavy users. PrivadoVPN wins on speed within its cap, TechRadar found. Our PrivadoVPN vs Proton VPN page compares them, and our Android VPN guide covers the wider field.

Privacy Record

No independent audit appears in our audit table for PrivadoVPN, which lists Iceland as its base after a 2026 move from Switzerland. The VPN audit tracker on our site explains why audits matter.

How We Research

This page draws on TechRadar’s PrivadoVPN review, Androidpimp’s February 2026 review, PCWorld’s review and our PrivadoVPN free guide, audit and device tables. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 7 October 2026. The main source we relied on is TechRadar’s PrivadoVPN review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
