An ExpressVPN cancel cannot happen inside the app. ExpressVPN’s support article says so directly: you turn off automatic renewal on its website, or in the App Store or Google Play if you paid there. Some payment methods never renew at all.
ExpressVPN also has a refund rule that NordVPN and Surfshark lack. If a renewal goes through by accident, its money-back page offers a full refund within 14 days of that renewal. This guide covers both.
How to Cancel ExpressVPN on the Website
Sign in to your ExpressVPN account on the website. Then choose Turn Off Automatic Renewal and follow the prompts until a message confirms the cancellation. That message is your proof, so keep a screenshot.
After that, ExpressVPN will not bill you for another cycle. You keep the service until the last day of the period you paid for, according to its support article.

ExpressVPN Cancel Steps in the App Stores
For an ExpressVPN cancel through Apple or Google, open the App Store or Google Play, select ExpressVPN and follow the instructions there. That includes free trials started in the app.
Timing matters for Google Play. ExpressVPN’s Play support article says to cancel at least 24 hours before the next charge. Store purchases also fall outside the 30-day guarantee, so Apple or Google decides any refund. Our ExpressVPN trial guide covers the mobile trial.

Payments That End by Themselves
Not every payment renews. Android Central quotes ExpressVPN: subscriptions paid through BitPay or Paymentwall end automatically on the subscription date. In that case, there is nothing to cancel, though you may still want to remove the apps. Our ExpressVPN iPhone guide covers the iOS app.
Turn Off Renewal or End Access Now?
Engadget describes a second option in the account: a Cancel Subscription button that ends access straight away, unlike turning off renewal. Use it only if you want the service gone immediately. In our view, turning off renewal is the safer choice, because the paid time stays usable.
Refunds After an ExpressVPN Cancel
After an ExpressVPN cancel, new users still get 30 days from the first purchase. ExpressVPN’s terms exclude renewals from that guarantee. However, its money-back page adds an exception: an unintended renewal can get a full refund within 14 days. Our ExpressVPN refund guide shows the request steps in the account.
For comparison, NordVPN’s and Surfshark’s guarantees cover first purchases only; both brands belong to Nord Security. Our NordVPN cancellation guide and Surfshark cancellation guide set out their rules.

What Renewal Would Cost
On 25 September 2026, the Basic 2-year plan cost $83.72 for the first 28 months under a promotion, then $99.95 a year. Advanced renews at $119.95 and Pro at $199.95. Our renewal price comparison shows how that compares with other providers.

| CyberGhost | $56.94/yr | ~$4.75 | 2-year |
| PureVPN | $47.95/yr | ~$4.00 | Standard, 2-year (1-year renews $57.95) |

What Stays After You Cancel
The account stays, and ExpressVPN says logins saved in ExpressVPN Keys remain accessible after the subscription ends. If you also want the apps gone, follow our ExpressVPN uninstall guide. ExpressVPN belongs to Kape Technologies, which also owns CyberGhost and Private Internet Access. Our VPN ownership map shows the group.
Before You Leave
If a fault is the reason, try our ExpressVPN disconnection guide or speed guide first. Before an ExpressVPN cancel, those fixes are quick to try. If price is the reason, a comparison helps.
Our ExpressVPN vs Proton VPN page compares a cheaper renewal, and our ExpressVPN review weighs the renewal price.
Turning Off Renewal Versus Cancelling Now
Engadget notes a difference between two options. Turning off automatic renewal keeps your access until the end of the billing cycle. A separate Cancel Subscription button ends access immediately. Most people want the first, since they have already paid for the period.
Crypto and Other Payments
Android Central quotes ExpressVPN saying that subscriptions paid through BitPay or Paymentwall end on their own. They do not renew automatically, so there is nothing to turn off. Card and PayPal subscriptions renew unless you turn renewal off.
Passwords in ExpressVPN Keys
ExpressVPN’s support notes that logins saved in ExpressVPN Keys stay available after cancelling. Export them anyway before your access ends, so you have a copy in another password manager.
After Cancelling
Uninstall the apps once access ends. Network Lock can block the internet after removal on some systems, as our ExpressVPN uninstall guide explains. Our ExpressVPN refund guide covers the 14-day window after an unwanted renewal.
How We Research
This page draws on ExpressVPN’s cancellation article, money-back page, terms and Google Play support article, plus guides from Android Central, Engadget and Gizmodo. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 25 September 2026. ExpressVPN was running an autumn promotion that day, so first-term prices change often. The main source we relied on is ExpressVPN’s cancellation article. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
