Disney Plus Surfshark access worked on most servers in SpeedTestHQ’s May 2026 comparison, though independent tests focused on Surfshark and Disney Plus are thinner than for Netflix. Disney’s help pages name VPNs among the causes of error 73, the location error that appears when Disney blocks a server. CloudsPress’s 2026 guide sets out a diagnosis order that works with any provider. Our page on Surfshark and Paramount Plus covers its test results, Paramount Plus’s rules and the error fixes.
This guide covers the libraries, the setup, error 73 and the fixes.
Libraries by Region
SpeedTestHQ notes Disney Plus runs in more than 100 countries with very different libraries. The US library centres on Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and National Geographic, while the UK, Australian and Canadian libraries add the Star hub with thousands of extra titles.
Connect to the country where you registered your subscription for your usual library while travelling. Some titles follow the account’s region rather than the IP.

Disney Plus Surfshark Setup
Install Surfshark on the device you watch on and sign in. Connect to a server in your subscription’s country, then open Disney Plus and sign in. If the app shows the wrong region, force-close it and reopen it.
CloudsPress suggests testing two or three servers, force-closing Disney Plus after each change. If the browser works but the app does not, CloudsPress points to the app’s cache or location permission rather than Surfshark.

What Error 73 Means
Error 73 appears when Disney Plus thinks you are somewhere it is not available. Disney’s error directory lists it among location errors, and its help names a VPN or IP anonymiser among the causes, CloudsPress notes. A Sky community thread from August 2026 shows the pattern: Disney Plus worked on an iPad but returned error 73 on a TV.
Diagnosing Error 73 in Order
CloudsPress’s first step is to turn the VPN off, force-close Disney Plus and test again. If it works without the VPN, the server or a leak is the cause. Reconnect to another server, since IP reputation changes and a server that worked yesterday may fail today.
Next, test for leaks with our IPv6 leak guide and DNS leak guide, and check location permissions on phones. Sign out of Disney Plus and back in if the region still sticks.

Disney Plus on TVs and Sticks
SpeedTestHQ notes Surfshark is in the Amazon Appstore for Fire TV, as our Surfshark Firestick guide explains. Android TV runs the app too, covered in our Android TV guide.
Samsung and LG TVs need a router or hotspot, since Surfshark closed its Smart DNS in February 2026, as our Surfshark smart TV guide explains.
Disney Plus Surfshark on Phones
Phones share GPS with apps, which can contradict the VPN. If Disney Plus shows error 73 only on a phone, check the app’s location permission and the phone’s location setting, then force-close the app and reopen it after Surfshark connects. Our Surfshark iPhone guide covers the iOS app.
Star Hub Titles
The Star hub adds thousands of titles in the UK, Australia and Canada, SpeedTestHQ notes, but rights holders license those titles to those regions. Subscribers travelling from those countries can keep their usual library by connecting home. Titles tied to the account’s region may stay hidden even on a working server, which is a licensing rule rather than a Surfshark fault.
Keeping a Working List
Note which Surfshark servers worked with Disney Plus and when. IP reputation changes, CloudsPress notes, so a short list of two or three working cities saves time on the day Disney flags one.
When to Contact Support
If two or three servers fail and leak tests pass, contact Surfshark’s live chat with the error code and device. Support may be able to point to servers that currently work. Disney’s own help page for error 73 is the other route, if the error persists with the VPN off.
Disney Plus and Hulu
Disney Plus and Hulu are moving closer together. Test each through Surfshark separately, since their checks differ. Our Hulu VPN guide covers Hulu’s own rules.
Testing Before You Commit
SpeedTestHQ advises testing a VPN’s streaming servers before buying a long plan. Use Surfshark’s 30-day refund window to test Disney Plus on the devices you actually use, and confirm the address first with our VPN test page.

How We Research
This page draws on SpeedTestHQ’s May 2026 Disney Plus VPN comparison, CloudsPress’s 2026 error 73 guide, a Sky community thread and pricing from Surfshark, Security.org and VPNOverview. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 6 October 2026. Surfshark’s renewal table did not load, so renewal figures come from Security.org and VPNOverview. The main source we relied on is SpeedTestHQ’s Disney Plus VPN comparison. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
