How much does ExpressVPN cost? Its pricing page says Save 80%. The Basic plan costs $2.99 a month, billed as $83.72 for the first 28 months, and then $99.95 a year. Both figures sit next to each other on the page, which is more than some rivals manage.
The 80% is the part worth reading twice. ExpressVPN measures it against the monthly price, not against the renewal, so the same offer counted NordVPN’s way is 64% off. And the introductory figure moves with every promotion, while the renewal has stayed at $99.95 all year. So the number to plan around is the one that does not change.
How Much Does ExpressVPN Cost? The Short Answer
On the current offer, Basic is $83.72 for 28 months, then $99.95 a year. Advanced is $125.72, then $119.95 a year. Pro is $209.72, then $199.95 a year. The three tiers cover 10, 12 and 14 devices respectively.
Outside a sale, Basic runs nearer $3.49 a month, which is $97.72 for the same 28 months. That is the figure in our ExpressVPN review and in our intro price table. Month to month, the page implies $14.99 for Basic.
The renewal is lower than NordVPN’s. Basic’s $99.95 is $39.13 a year less than NordVPN Basic, so over four years ExpressVPN costs less despite a similar first bill. Our NordVPN pricing breakdown has the other side of that comparison.
Three Tiers, and What Each Renews At
These are the two-year figures ExpressVPN’s pricing page showed in US dollars on 25 September 2026, during an autumn sports promotion. Sales tax is added at checkout where it applies.

Every term is 24 months plus four free, and the whole amount is charged on the day. After that the plan renews yearly, in one charge, at the figure in the last column.
The renewal jump depends on the tier. Basic goes from $2.99 to $8.33 a month, which is 2.8× after 28 months, or 2.4× after 28 months if you bought at $3.49. Advanced goes from $4.49 to about $10, and Pro from $7.49 to $16.66, both 2.2× after 28 months. NordVPN’s comparable rise is 3.3× after 27 months, so ExpressVPN’s increase is gentler across all three tiers.
The 80% Is Measured Against the Monthly Price
The page explains its own discount in a footnote: savings reflect a reduction from the current monthly price for each tier. The struck-out totals confirm it. Basic’s $419.72 is exactly 28 months at $14.99, Advanced’s $475.72 is 28 months at $16.99, and Pro’s $643.72 is 28 months at $22.99.
That base flatters the offer. A two-year buyer is not choosing between this offer and 28 months of monthly billing. Against the price you will actually pay afterwards, $99.95 a year, the same 28 months would cost $233.22, so the saving is 64% rather than 80%. Advanced and Pro drop from 73% and 67% to 55% on the same basis.
⚠️ So discount percentages cannot be compared between providers. NordVPN measures its figure against the renewal, and ExpressVPN measures against the monthly price. Two identical deals can therefore show very different percentages, and the only comparable numbers are the amount billed today and the amount billed at renewal.
The First Price Moves, the Renewal Does Not
Published figures for the same two-year Basic plan in 2026 disagree, and we list them rather than pick one. Grey quoted $2.49 a month in June. Gizmodo quoted $3.49 in July, which matches our tables. The page itself showed $2.99 on 25 September. Meanwhile our Black Friday page recorded $4.49 a month with four months added for November 2025.
Across all of those snapshots, the renewal stayed at $99.95. That is the practical lesson: the discount changes with the calendar, but the price you pay from month 29 onwards does not. On a two-year term, the gap between $2.99 and $3.49 is $14.00 in total. The renewal, by contrast, is $99.95 every year you stay.
⚠️ A lower first price is still worth having, yet it is not worth waiting months for. If you need a VPN now, the difference between two promotions is smaller than one month of paying monthly.
Four Years of ExpressVPN Against NordVPN
Here is what leaves your account on the Basic plan over four years, counted charge by charge.
ExpressVPN on the two-year plan: $283.62 in three charges — $83.72, then $99.95 twice. Those charges cover 52 months. At the regular $3.49 the total is $297.62.
ExpressVPN on the one-year plan: the one-year tab was not visible to us, so we rely on VPNOverview and Yahoo, which both reported $74.85 for 15 months in June. On that basis, four charges come to $374.70 for 51 months.
ExpressVPN month to month: $719.52 at $14.99, in 48 charges.
NordVPN Basic on its two-year plan: $372.39 in three charges, for 51 months.

Basic, Advanced or Pro: What Each Step Up Buys
All three tiers use the same servers in 113 countries and the same Lightway protocol. The difference is the device limit and the other ExpressVPN products bundled in.
Basic covers the VPN on ten devices, plus Lite Protection, which blocks ads, malicious sites and adult sites. For a buyer who wants a VPN and nothing else, that is the whole purchase.
Advanced raises the limit to twelve devices. It adds tracker blocking, the ExpressKeys password manager, a larger email relay allowance, a three-day eSIM with 3 GB of data, and Identity Defender with insurance the page states at up to $3 million. On this offer it costs $42.00 more than Basic over 28 months, or $1.50 a month. At renewal the gap is only $20.00 a year, which makes Advanced the cheapest step up in either brand’s range.
Pro raises the limit to fourteen devices and includes a dedicated IP address. It also adds insurance stated at up to $5 million, a five-day eSIM and the ExpressAI assistant. It costs $84.00 more than Advanced over 28 months and $80.00 more a year after that.
⚠️ Identity Defender is US-focused, and Gizmodo reports the insurance and monitoring as US-only. Outside the US, Advanced is mainly a password manager, tracker blocking and two extra devices. ExpressVPN’s announcement of the tiers in September 2025 also listed discounts on its Aircove router for the higher tiers. Add-Ons, and What the Page Does Not Show
A dedicated IP costs extra on Basic and Advanced. ExpressVPN’s own announcement of the tiers, in September 2025, priced the add-on at $3.99 to $8.99 a month. Gizmodo, in July 2026, valued the one bundled in Pro at $2.49 a month. The sources disagree, so check at checkout, and our dedicated IP guide covers who actually needs one.
The monthly price is implied rather than printed. On the two-year tab, the struck-out totals divide exactly into $14.99, $16.99 and $22.99 a month. Earlier reports, and our monthly pricing guide, recorded $12.99 for Basic. Either the monthly price has risen, or the figures come from different markets. We could not confirm which.
Sales tax and VAT are extra on every figure in this article. Prices can also differ by country and through partner links, including ours, so the figure at checkout is the one that counts.
How ExpressVPN’s Renewal Compares
Basic’s $99.95 sits below NordVPN’s $139.08 and above Surfshark’s roughly $79 and Proton VPN’s roughly $83.88. NordVPN and Surfshark share a parent, Nord Security. ExpressVPN against Surfshark covers what the extra $21 or so a year buys.

Who Should Pay for ExpressVPN
Buyers who will stay beyond the first term. The renewal is where ExpressVPN is competitive, and its four-year total comes in below NordVPN’s.
Households that need twelve or fourteen devices but still want a limit-based premium service. Advanced adds two devices for $20.00 a year at renewal.

Who Should Look Elsewhere
Month-to-month buyers. At an implied $14.99 for Basic, one month costs five times the promotional rate.

So judge it on the renewal. If you will keep it beyond the first term, ExpressVPN is the cheaper of the two premium brands over four years. Buy the two-year plan, consider Advanced if the extra devices matter, and set a reminder for month 28.
