Surfshark for Streaming (2026): Results by Service, TV Apps and the Gaps

Disclosure: VPNFin is reader-supported. If you buy a VPN through links on this page, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects our ratings — here’s our full disclosure.

Surfshark for streaming is strong but not perfect. Recent tests found it opening BBC iPlayer on all UK servers in August 2026, Netflix in many countries, Peacock and Crunchyroll’s US library. The gaps show too: TechRadar’s test saw Netflix UK and Australia fail on the day, and Tom’s Guide found US YouTube blocked in May 2026. Results change week to week, so the pattern matters more than any single test.

This guide gathers the results by service, the devices, the fixes and the rules streaming services set.

Results by Service

Netflix results vary by tester. Gizmodo’s 2026 tests opened the US, UK, Japan, Australia and Germany. Wizcase found 14 working countries, with Poland, Spain, Sweden and Taiwan intermittent. TechRadar, as cited by iTechguides, reached the US after several attempts and failed in the UK and Australia. Our Surfshark Netflix guide covers the details.

Other services: Comparitech opened BBC iPlayer on all UK servers in August 2026, as our Surfshark iPlayer guide explains. VPNPro reached Peacock, PrivacyJournal reached Crunchyroll’s US library after a server switch, and SpeedTestHQ found Disney Plus working on most servers. Our page on Surfshark and Paramount Plus covers its test results, Paramount Plus’s rules and the error fixes.

Surfshark for streaming results by service

Where Surfshark Struggled

Tom’s Guide’s May 2026 round found US YouTube blocked for Surfshark, while CyberGhost passed. TechRadar’s Netflix UK and Australia failures show the same point: a provider can work brilliantly one week and stumble the next. Keep two or three servers saved for each service you use.

Surfshark for Streaming on TVs

Surfshark’s May 2026 blog lists TV apps for Fire TV, including Vega OS models, Google TV, Android TV and Apple TV on tvOS 17 and later. Our Surfshark Firestick guide and Apple TV guide cover the setup.

Samsung and LG TVs need a router or hotspot, since Surfshark closed its Smart DNS in February 2026, as our Surfshark smart TV guide explains.

Surfshark for Streaming on Phones

On phones, connect Surfshark first, then open the streaming app. Phones share GPS with some apps, so check location permissions if a service still shows your home region. Our Surfshark iPhone guide covers the iOS app.

Speed for 4K

Tom’s Guide notes 4K Netflix needs at least 25 Mbps. Pick a server close to you within the right country, and keep WireGuard on, which Surfshark recommends on desktop. Distance shows up as lower picture quality rather than an error, so try a closer server first when the picture softens.

A Dedicated IP for Streaming

Vpncentral notes Surfshark sells dedicated IPs as an extra. A dedicated address is used only by you, which removes the shared-IP signal some services look for, though nothing guarantees access. Our dedicated IP guide covers the trade-offs.

Unlimited Devices for Households

Surfshark sets no device limit, so every TV, stick, phone and laptop in a household can stream through one plan. That is Surfshark’s clearest advantage for families with several screens.

First Fixes When a Service Blocks You

Switch to another server in the same country first, since streaming services flag addresses one by one. Clear cookies or use a private window, and force-close TV apps after connecting. Test for leaks with our IPv6 leak guide and DNS leak guide.

If speed is the problem rather than access, pick a closer server and keep WireGuard on. Our Surfshark speed guide covers the steps.

Surfshark for streaming: the first fixes when a service blocks you

Keeping a Working List

Note which Surfshark servers worked for each service and when. Streaming services update their blocks, so a short list of two or three working cities per service saves time on the day one stops working, especially before live events, premieres and finales.

The Services’ Rules

Streaming services set their own terms. Netflix’s catalogue follows region, Peacock needs a US payment method, and the BBC requires a TV licence for iPlayer. A VPN changes the location a service sees; it does not change account rules. Our streaming VPN guide compares providers and covers the rules.

Live Sport

Live streams are the most sensitive to distance and blocks. Cybernews watched a live 2026 World Cup match on iPlayer through Surfshark on a phone. Pick the nearest server in the right country and test before kick-off. Our sports streaming guide covers blackouts.

What Surfshark Costs

On 25 September 2026, the Starter 2-year plan cost $67.23 for the first 27 months. Renewal sits at about $79 a year, according to Security.org and VPNOverview. Surfshark sets no device limit. Our Surfshark price breakdown covers the plans, and our Surfshark refund guide explains the 30 days.

Testing Before You Commit

Use the 30-day refund window to test the services you actually watch, on the devices you actually use. Our Surfshark trial guide explains the options. Surfshark belongs to Nord Security, which also owns NordVPN.

How We Research

This page draws on Surfshark streaming tests from Gizmodo, Wizcase, TechRadar via iTechguides, Comparitech, VPNPro, PrivacyJournal, SpeedTestHQ, Tom’s Guide and Cybernews, Surfshark’s TV apps blog and pricing from Surfshark, Security.org and VPNOverview. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 6 October 2026. Surfshark’s renewal table did not load, so renewal figures come from Security.org and VPNOverview. The main source we relied on is Gizmodo’s Surfshark Netflix guide. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
