How much does NordVPN cost? It advertises $3.49 a month. What you actually pay on the day is $94.23, upfront, for 27 months of the Basic plan. After that the bill is $139.08 a year, which works out at $11.59 a month and keeps arriving until you switch it off.
The pricing page tells you this itself, if you read the struck-out figure. That $312.93 is not an old list price. It is 27 months at the renewal rate, so NordVPN’s discount is measured against the price you will pay later. In other words, the discount and the forecast are the same number.
How Much Does NordVPN Cost? The Short Answer
Basic costs $94.23 for the first 27 months, then $139.08 a year. Complete costs $121.23, then $219.48 a year. Prime costs $202.23, then $296.28 a year. All three cover ten devices, and all three carry the same 30-day refund on the first payment.
Month to month, Basic is $14.99. That is the price for someone who wants to leave at any point, and it never changes. The one-year plan sits between the two at $65.88 for the first year.
Renewal is where the real cost lives. The monthly rate on Basic rises from $3.49 to $11.59, which is 3.3× after 27 months. So a two-year plan is a good deal for its first term and an ordinary one afterwards. Everything else about the product rates 4.8 in our NordVPN review.
Every Plan, Every Term, and What Each Renews At
These are the figures NordVPN’s own pricing page showed in US dollars on 25 September 2026. Sales tax is added on top where it applies, and the page says so under every price.

Two things stand out. First, the renewal price belongs to the plan rather than to the term. A one-year Basic customer and a two-year Basic customer both renew at $139.08, so the longer plan buys a longer discount rather than a cheaper future. Second, the renewal is billed yearly in one charge, and it is never a monthly debit.
⚠️ Tier names change by country. NordVPN’s own support page lists the top tier as Prime, Ultimate Max, Ultra or Complete Max depending on the market. Its pricing guide, checked in October 2025, still describes a fourth tier called Plus, which the September 2026 page no longer shows. From Southeast Asia, where we are based, the regional pages show different tiers and currencies again. So we quote the US page and name the date rather than screenshotting a storefront.
The Renewal: What the Struck-Out Price Is Telling You
Every discount on the page carries the same footnote: savings are measured against renewal prices. The arithmetic checks out exactly. Basic’s struck-out $312.93 is $139.08 a year for 27 months. Complete’s $493.83 and Prime’s $666.63 follow the same rule, and the percentage off is the gap between the two.
That makes the rise easy to state with its term. Basic goes from $3.49 to $11.59 a month, which is 3.3× after 27 months. Complete goes from $4.49 to $18.29, or 4.1× after 27 months. Prime goes from $7.49 to $24.69, which is 3.3× after 27 months again. On the one-year plan the jump is smaller but sooner. Basic moves from $65.88 to $139.08, a 2.1× rise after 12 months.
The renewal is still cheaper than paying monthly. A year of Basic at $14.99 a month costs $179.88, which is $40.80 more than the renewal. The same holds for Complete, $20.40 cheaper at renewal, and for Prime, $63.60 cheaper. In short, staying on after the first term is expensive compared with the introduction, yet it is not a penalty compared with rolling monthly billing.

Which Term Costs Least Over Four Years
Monthly equivalents hide the real comparison, so here is what leaves your account on Basic over four years, charge by charge.
Month to month: $719.52, in 48 charges of $14.99. You can leave any month, and that freedom is all this route buys.
The one-year plan: $483.12, in four charges — $65.88 once, then $139.08 three times.
The two-year plan: $372.39, in three charges — $94.23, then $139.08 twice. Those three charges cover 51 months, not 48. Prorated to exactly four years, the figure lands near the ~$335 in our four-year table.
So the two-year plan wins even after its renewals, because the promotional term runs longer than the renewal gap it creates. Over the first two years the difference is starker still. The long plan costs $94.23, against $204.96 on the one-year plan, which renews in month 13.
Basic, Complete or Prime: What the Extra Money Buys
All three plans run the same VPN on the same servers with the same ten-device limit. The price difference buys other Nord Security software, so the useful question is whether you would pay for that software anyway.
Basic covers the VPN, scam and phishing protection through NordVPN’s DNS, and breach alerts for up to five email addresses. For a buyer who wants a VPN and nothing else, that is the whole purchase.
Complete adds a password manager, 1 TB of encrypted cloud storage and call protection. On desktop it also adds the next-generation antivirus and the ad and tracker blocker, plus wider breach monitoring. It costs $27.00 more than Basic across the first 27 months, which is a dollar a month. At renewal the gap becomes $80.40 a year.
Prime adds identity-protection services, including credit monitoring and credit freeze assistance. The page also states insurance cover of up to $1,000,000 for identity theft and $100,000 for cyber extortion. Several of these are US-specific. It costs $81.00 more than Complete over the first term and $76.80 more a year after it.
⚠️ Judge the bundle by what you would otherwise buy. If you already pay for a password manager and cloud storage, Complete duplicates them. If you do not, a dollar a month is cheap for the first term, but price it at the renewal difference, not at the introductory one.
Add-Ons and Charges Outside the Plan
A dedicated IP address is extra on every plan. Published figures disagree on the price. Security.org and VPNOverview give $3.69 a month on the two-year plan, while CyberInsider, updated on 22 September 2026, gives $3.89. Either way it costs more per month than Basic itself, and our dedicated IP guide covers who needs one.
Incogni, a data-removal service, is sold as a separate add-on at checkout. We have not priced it here, since it is a separate data-removal service rather than part of the VPN.
Sales tax and VAT sit on top of every figure in this article. The page adds them at checkout according to where you are, so the charge on your statement can be higher than the printed price.

How NordVPN’s Renewal Compares
NordVPN’s $139.08 is above the renewals we track for Surfshark, at about $79, Proton VPN at about $83.88, and ExpressVPN at $99.95. Surfshark belongs to the same parent, Nord Security, as our ownership guide sets out. So the gap is a pricing decision within one group rather than a difference in cost of service.

Refunds, Trials and Switching Off Renewal
The 30-day money-back guarantee covers the first payment only. NordVPN’s support page states that renewals are not refundable under the guarantee, unless local law requires otherwise. So the refund protects the purchase decision, not the renewal you forgot about.
Where you bought matters. Subscriptions bought on NordVPN’s website are refunded by NordVPN. The company states requests are processed within four hours, with up to ten business days for the money to arrive. An App Store purchase is refunded by Apple under Apple’s rules. For Google Play, NordVPN’s support can handle it, or you can use Google’s own flow within 48 hours. Our refund guide walks through each route.
There are two trials, and neither avoids a payment method. A seven-day trial applies to the top tier on one- and two-year plans, for new customers in fifteen countries including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Japan. A separate three-day trial runs through Google Play for first-time Android users, except in Bangladesh, India, South Korea and Sri Lanka. Both turn into a paid plan unless cancelled, which is why our free trial guide treats the refund window as the more useful test.
Auto-renewal is on by default. To switch it off, open Nord Account, go to Billing, and cancel auto-renewal next to the subscription. Access continues until the paid period ends, and NordVPN sends a confirmation email.
⚠️ Do this on the day you subscribe if you intend to reassess. It costs nothing, and the charge at month 27 is otherwise automatic.
When to Buy
Discounts rotate through the year, and Black Friday is the largest. In November 2025 NordVPN’s two-year Basic plan ran at $2.99 a month with three months added, as our Black Friday page recorded at the time. Against today’s $3.49 that is $0.50 a month, or $13.50 across 27 months.
That is real money, but it is not worth going unprotected for two months to collect it. The renewal is identical either way, which is the larger number.
Who Should Pay for NordVPN
Buyers who will commit to the two-year plan. At $94.23 for 27 months the first term is competitive, and the product behind it holds six published no-logs audits by PwC and Deloitte. Our audit tracker sets that record against the others.
Households with up to ten devices. The limit is fixed on every plan, and for most homes it is enough.
People who want the security bundle anyway. Complete at a dollar a month over Basic is good value in the first term, provided you would otherwise pay for a password manager or cloud storage.

If you buy it, buy the two-year plan, since it holds the lower rate longest and still beats the one-year route after renewals. Then switch off auto-renewal the same day, and decide at month 27 whether $139.08 is still worth it to you.
