CyberGhost port forwarding is not available. CyberGhost offers no way to open inbound ports through its servers, and its dedicated IPs do not add one either, as far as the sources we read show. For everyday browsing and streaming, that changes nothing. It matters for heavy torrent seeders, people hosting game servers or remote access, and console players fighting strict NAT. Private Internet Access, owned by the same parent, does offer port forwarding.
This guide explains what port forwarding does, who needs it, what CyberGhost offers instead, and where to look if you need it.
What Port Forwarding Does
Behind a VPN, other devices cannot start a connection to you, because the VPN server does not pass inbound traffic. Port forwarding asks the server to pass traffic on one port through to you. Our port forwarding guide explains the mechanics.
Who Needs It
Torrent seeders benefit most: without an open port, fewer peers can connect to you, so uploads and some downloads slow down. People hosting game servers, media servers or remote desktop sessions need it to accept incoming connections. Console players may see strict NAT, which a VPN without port forwarding cannot fix.
Everyday browsing, streaming and most online gaming do not need it at all. If you are unsure, check whether anything you run needs to accept incoming connections.

CyberGhost Port Forwarding Alternatives Within CyberGhost
For downloads, CyberGhost’s For Torrenting servers cover more than 80 countries, CyberInsider notes, and VPNAlert explains how to bind qBittorrent or Vuze to CyberGhost’s network interface. Downloads still work without an open port, just with fewer peers. Our CyberGhost torrenting guide covers the setup.
For consoles, a router or Smart DNS gets CyberGhost onto the device, but strict NAT remains, as our CyberGhost PS4 guide explains.

No SOCKS5 Either
Seeders sometimes pair port forwarding with a SOCKS5 proxy. We found no SOCKS5 proxy at CyberGhost, as our CyberGhost SOCKS5 guide explains.
Providers That Offer Port Forwarding
Private Internet Access includes port forwarding, according to our tables, and belongs to Kape Technologies like CyberGhost. PureVPN offers it as a paid add-on. NordVPN and Surfshark do not, as our NordVPN port forwarding guide and Surfshark guide explain; the two share an owner, Nord Security.
Our torrenting VPN guide compares providers that suit heavy seeders, and our CyberGhost alternatives guide matches other reasons for switching.

A Note on Router Port Forwarding
Opening ports on your home router does not help while the VPN is on, because inbound traffic reaches the VPN server, not your router. Router port forwarding only works for traffic outside the VPN. If you need both, keep the hosting device off the VPN.
Gaming Without Open Ports
Most online games work fine without port forwarding, since the game client starts the connection. CyberGhost’s For Gaming servers kept ping low in Cybernews’ 2026 test, as our CyberGhost gaming guide explains. Hosting a game server for friends is the exception, and that needs open ports.
Remote Access and Home Servers
If you run a media server or remote desktop at home, keep that machine off the VPN, or use split tunnelling where available, so router port forwarding still reaches it. Sources disagree on which CyberGhost platforms offer split tunnelling; our split tunnelling guide explains the idea.
Why VPNs Drop Port Forwarding
We found no CyberGhost statement explaining the choice. Several large providers, including NordVPN and Surfshark, also do without port forwarding, as our guides show. CyberGhost instead focuses on labelled servers for streaming, gaming and torrenting, which serve outbound connections. Users who rely on inbound connections are a smaller group, and they have PIA within the same company group.
Checking Your Torrent Setup
Whether or not ports are open, confirm the address your torrent client reports with a torrent-specific IP test, and run a DNS check with our DNS leak guide. Then confirm the VPN itself with our VPN test page.
A Quick Rule
Seeding heavily or hosting? Choose a provider with port forwarding. Downloading, streaming or gaming? CyberGhost’s P2P and gaming servers already cover you.
Console Players
On consoles, strict NAT through a VPN is common. Connect the console directly for online play if NAT matters more than privacy, and use CyberGhost on other devices. Our CyberGhost Xbox guide covers the routes.
The Kill Switch Still Matters
Whatever you choose, keep the kill switch on for torrenting, so downloads stop rather than leak if the tunnel drops. BleepingComputer notes CyberGhost’s kill switch is on by default on Windows. Our kill switch guide explains why.
What CyberGhost Costs

How We Research
This page draws on our CyberGhost guides and tables, CyberInsider and VPNAlert on CyberGhost’s torrenting servers, BleepingComputer on the kill switch and our port forwarding guides. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 6 October 2026. Renewal from our renewal table. The main source we relied on is BleepingComputer’s CyberGhost review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
CyberGhost Port Forwarding FAQ
No. CyberGhost has no port forwarding option.
Yes, on its For Torrenting servers, with fewer peers than an open port would give.
Not according to the sources we read.
Private Internet Access, also owned by Kape.
No. Strict NAT needs port forwarding, which CyberGhost lacks.
The Verdict
CyberGhost port forwarding does not exist, which matters only for seeders, hosts and console players with strict NAT. Everyone else can torrent and play normally; those who need open ports should look at PIA. CyberGhost belongs to Kape Technologies, which also owns ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access.
