CyberGhost on Smart TVs (2026): LG Smart DNS, Samsung, Android TV and Routers

CyberGhost on an LG smart TV works through Smart DNS, because LG’s webOS cannot run VPN apps. CyberGhost’s own LG page says to enable Smart DNS in the account dashboard and enter its DNS address in the TV’s settings. CyberGhost’s support is clear about the limit: Smart DNS unblocks content but is not a security tool. TVs built on Android TV, by contrast, run CyberGhost’s app directly.

This guide covers the CyberGhost LG smart TV setup, Samsung and other brands, the router option, and the common problems. Our VPN test page helps confirm the router route later.

Which TVs Run the CyberGhost App

Sony, Philips, TCL and other TVs on Android TV or Google TV install CyberGhost from Google Play, as our CyberGhost Android TV guide explains. Fire TV Edition sets use the Amazon Appstore, covered in our CyberGhost Firestick guide.

LG’s webOS and Samsung’s Tizen cannot run VPN apps. For those, CyberGhost’s Japanese TV page names Smart DNS for LG and Samsung TVs, as well as Roku and Apple TV.

CyberGhost LG Smart TV Setup With Smart DNS

Log in to the CyberGhost account dashboard from any device and enable Smart DNS, as CyberGhost’s LG page describes. Note the DNS address it gives you. Then, on the TV, open the settings and the network section, choose your connection, and switch DNS from automatic to manual.

Enter CyberGhost’s Smart DNS address, save, and restart the TV. Open a streaming app and check that the catalogue changed. If it did not, close the app fully and reopen it.

What Smart DNS Does and Does Not Do

CyberGhost’s support explains that Smart DNS only changes your DNS addresses. It helps streaming apps believe you are in another region, but it does not encrypt traffic or hide your IP. A user on the Spanish forum BandaAncha discovered this the hard way, expecting the TV’s IP to change.

So Smart DNS suits streaming at home. It is not the tool for privacy on a hotel or shared network. Our Smart DNS vs VPN page explains the difference.

CyberGhost LG smart TV: what Smart DNS changes and what it does not

When Smart DNS Will Not Work

Some internet providers block or redirect DNS traffic on port 53, which stops Smart DNS from working. CyberGhost’s support has an article on that case, referenced on the BandaAncha forum. If the catalogue never changes, ask your provider whether it intercepts DNS, or switch to the router route.

Streaming services also detect DNS-based unblocking at times. Comparitech notes that Amazon shows an HTTP proxy error when it detects Smart DNS, as our NordVPN Smart DNS guide explains for a rival service.

CyberGhost LG Smart TV Tips for Streaming

Smart DNS works per service, not per country. CyberGhost’s LG page names Netflix and BBC iPlayer among the services it helps unblock. If one app changes region and another does not, the second service may not be covered, or it may detect the DNS change.

After any change, close each streaming app fully and reopen it. TV apps cache location, and a cached region can make a working setup look broken. If a CyberGhost LG smart TV setup keeps failing for one service, try the router route for that TV instead.

When Your Home IP Changes

Many Smart DNS services work only from IP addresses registered with the provider. If your home connection gets a new IP address, for example after a router restart, the service can stop working. Check CyberGhost’s dashboard after such changes, and re-enable Smart DNS if needed. Our DNS leak guide explains how to see which DNS servers a device actually uses.

The Router Route

CyberGhost’s LG page also points to router setup. A router running CyberGhost covers the TV with full encryption, plus every other device on the network. Our router setup guide explains which routers support VPN clients.

The trade-off is that every device on that router shares one location. Some households use a second router just for the TV.

Samsung TVs

Samsung’s Tizen follows the same pattern as webOS: no VPN apps, Smart DNS or a router instead. Our Samsung TV VPN guide covers the menus, and our LG TV VPN guide compares providers for LG.
