NordVPN vs NortonVPN is a contest between a VPN specialist and an antivirus brand that built a VPN. Norton VPN has improved fast: it now has two no-logs audits, an audited stealth protocol and two-year plans since January 2026. NordVPN still covers more devices, more platforms and more audits, though it costs more after the first term.
NordVPN vs NortonVPN at a Glance
NordVPN allows 10 devices on every plan and lists six audits by PwC and Deloitte. Norton VPN covers 5 devices on Standard and Plus and 10 on Ultimate, according to Security.org. Tom’s Guide reports Norton’s second no-logs audit in October 2025 and a first audit of its Mimic protocol in December 2025.
One older source disagrees: Gizmodo’s review says Norton has no independent audit. Newer reviews show that has changed, so we follow Tom’s Guide and PCWorld. Our VPN audit tracker lists NordVPN’s record.

Platforms and Features
Norton’s apps support WireGuard, OpenVPN, IPSec and Mimic, its own stealth protocol. On Mac, however, Tom’s Guide found no WireGuard or OpenVPN. Split tunnelling exists only on Windows and Android, according to Security.org, and PCWorld notes it lacks a reverse mode. Norton also does not run on Chromebooks.
NordVPN offers NordLynx, its WireGuard-based protocol, on every major platform, plus obfuscated servers and post-quantum encryption, as our post-quantum guide explains.
Our NordVPN Mac guide covers its Mac app, and our split tunnelling guide explains the feature.
NordVPN vs NortonVPN on Price
Security.org lists Norton VPN Standard from $39.99 for the first year, renewing at $79.99 a year. NordVPN Basic costs $94.23 for the first 27 months, then $139.08 a year. So Norton costs less at renewal, while NordVPN’s first term covers more than two years.
Tom’s Guide credits Norton for showing the renewal price clearly. Norton has no free trial, Security.org notes, while NordVPN offers a 30-day refund, as our NordVPN refund guide explains. Our renewal price comparison covers both.

Privacy and Ownership
Norton belongs to Gen Digital, a US company that also owns Avast, AVG, Avira and CCleaner. Security.org points out that Norton’s privacy policy allows data sharing with partners across Gen Digital. NordVPN belongs to Nord Security and operates from Panama. Our VPN ownership map shows both groups.
Antivirus Bundle or Standalone VPN?
In NordVPN vs NortonVPN, Norton’s strength is the bundle. If you already pay for Norton 360, its VPN may be enough. However, a VPN and antivirus do different jobs, as our VPN vs antivirus page explains. Our Norton VPN review covers the standalone service.

Streaming and Torrenting
Security.org reports no problems streaming Netflix with Norton, and PCWorld notes P2P servers. NordVPN supports both as well. Our Netflix VPN guide and torrenting guide compare the field.
For NordVPN vs NortonVPN on a budget, our NordVPN trial guide shows how to test NordVPN first. Our NordVPN vs Surfshark page covers NordVPN’s sister brand. Either way, check the renewal line before paying.
Ownership and Data Sharing
Norton VPN belongs to Gen Digital, which also owns Avast, Avira, AVG, CCleaner and LifeLock, according to Tom’s Guide and Experte. Security.org notes Norton’s privacy policy allows data sharing with partners inside Gen Digital. NordVPN belongs to Nord Security, which also owns Surfshark. For a head-to-head, see our Proton VPN vs Norton VPN comparison.
Extra Features
PCWorld lists Double VPN, IP rotation and P2P servers among Norton’s features. NordVPN offers Double VPN, Onion over VPN, P2P servers and Meshnet. Our NordVPN Meshnet guide covers the feature Norton does not have.
Chromebook and Linux
A StackSocial listing notes Norton VPN does not work on Chromebook. NordVPN supports Chromebooks through its Android app and Linux through a GUI and command-line app, as our NordVPN Linux guide explains. Our page on Norton VPN on Chromebook covers the Android app route and the caveats testers found.
Trials
Security.org notes Norton has no free trial. NordVPN offers a 30-day refund on all plans. Test either on your own devices before committing. Our ExpressVPN vs Norton VPN comparison sets the two side by side.
Split Tunnelling and Platforms
Security.org reports Norton’s split tunnelling only on Windows and Android, without a reverse mode, according to PCWorld. NordVPN’s split tunnelling covers Windows, Android and its TV app, as our NordVPN split tunnelling guide explains.
Tom’s Guide notes Norton’s Mac app lacks WireGuard and OpenVPN. NordVPN’s Mac app offers NordLynx, its WireGuard-based protocol. For Mac users, that difference matters more than any price gap. Both offer refunds or trials of some kind, so test the platforms you use most before choosing. We put the two side by side in our NordVPN vs Kaspersky VPN comparison.
Our Norton VPN review covers Norton in full, including its audit history.
How We Research
This page draws on Norton VPN reviews from Tom’s Guide, Security.org, PCWorld and Experte, plus the provider pricing pages behind our own reviews. We cross-checked these sources against each other, and where they conflict or something can’t be verified, we say so in the text rather than guessing. We checked time-sensitive figures, including prices in US dollars, on 5 October 2026. NordVPN and Surfshark prices come from their pages on 25 September 2026; Norton’s from Security.org. The main source we relied on is Tom’s Guide’s Norton VPN review. Our full approach lives on the About Us page.
